    facilities, proper sanitation, footpaths, public
    toilets etc.
  • Main commercial area near Chaura Bazar is choked
    due to traffic congestion
  • What needs to be done
  • Provision of public toilets, footpaths, proper
    advertisement control, ornamental landscaping to
    be initiated in existing commercial areas.
  • Underground/multi-story parking complex to be
    built to decongest commercial area.
  • Strategically located government lands and
    properties to be commercially exploitation.
  • Develop bulk marketing area like vegetable
    fruit market, timber market, Iron market,
    transport Nagar, etc. outside the city

WATER SUPPLY
  • Existing Condition
  • 207 Tube wells - main source of water supply
  • OHRS 45
  • 60 pipeline i.e 840 kms.
  • Water table falling by 30 cm/year
  • No supply of safe water for 40 of the population
  • Ground water not potable for areas abutting Budha
    Nalah Industrial areas.
  • What needs to be done
  • Realistic assessment of existing and future
    requirements of
  • drinking water.
  • Conserving surface water (rain water)
  • Public campaign about importance of water
    conservation
  • Mobilization of necessary resources from both
    government and other funding agencies.

DRAINAGE /SEWERAGE

  • Only 10 city covered by storm water drainage
  • 50 areas without sewerage system
  • Treatment plant being constructed under Sutlej
    Action Plan costing 164 cr., does not cope up
    even with the present effluent discharge.
  • Buddha Nalah which is a sullage carrier pollutes
    the ground water.

  • A realistic assessment of the sewerage
    requirement - both
  • present and future- new/old areas - expert
    agency.
  • Necessary funding from various agencies needed.

    waste water (effluent discharge) as well as
    drinking water.
  • To involve private agencies to provide services
    on BOT, BOOT, PSP and on self financing basis.
  • To prepare projects that take care of costs and
    maintenance needs to get loan/finances from
    different agencies.

Solid Waste Management-I

  • Approximately 850 mts. of garbage generated every

  • Municipal Corporation unable to handle the entire
    volume of garbage 75 lifted
  • No solid waste treatment plant at present.
  • 240 garbage containers placed at various places.
  • 9 pucca filth depots for collection of garbage.
  • 2 dumping grounds for disposal of garbage.
  • What needs to be done
  • Proper/designated garbage collection places to be
    developed throughout the city.
  • Upgradation of machinery (Refuse Compactors) with
    a view to reducing container sites.
  • Formalizing the informal rag picking.
  • Commercial exploitation of solid waste through
    appropriate technology to be initiated, Waste to
    compost / Waste to Energy.
  • Need to evolve private sector in solid waste
    management.
  • Scientific and cost effective disposal of
    Biomedical waste.

    moving, slow moving and pedestrian traffic.

    in the older part of the city obsolete-generates
    sever traffic congestion.

  • Widening of roads and making them dual carriage
    way with footpaths on either side.

  • Construction of new Bus Stands on different sides
    of the city
  • Construction of a new Truck Stand and Transport
    Nagar
