  • ECDL consists of seven modules
  • Module 1 - Basic Concepts of Information
    Technology
  • Basic theory relating to Computers
  • Exam - Multiple choice questions
  • Module 2 - Using the Computer and Managing Files
  • How to save files in folders and manage data in
    folders using Windows Explorer
  • Module 3 - Word Processing
  • Create documents and use features of Microsoft
    Word
  • Module 4 Spreadsheets
  • Use Microsoft Excel to calculate figures using
    formulas and create graphs to represent this data
  • Module 5 - Databases/Filing Systems
  • Create a database and run queries forms and
    reports on this data using Micrsoft Access
  • Module 6 - Presentation and Drawing
  • Design and create a presentation using the
    features from Microsoft Powerpoint
  • Module 7 - Information Network Services
  • Learn how to surf and search the Internet and how
    to send and receive emails

ECDL Exams
  • There is an exam in each Module
  • To receive ECDL Certification you have to
    complete and pass all 7 Module exams
  • 30 35 questions per module
  • 45 minutes for each exam
  • PASS MARK 75
  • The exams are carried out on the computer through
    an Autotest system
  • Module 1 MCQ type questions
  • Modules 2 7 Practical based where you are asked
    to complete tasks in the applications using a
    simulation
  • You will receive your exam result immediately
    after you have completed each exam

ECDL Courseware
  • Students may study the ECDL courseware online via
    the Training Centre website http//tcentre.ucc.ie
  • Online training is free to students
  • The online training for ECDL is only accessible
    on UCC computers
  • ECDL modules can be studied in any order
  • Start with a module you are familiar with e.g.
    Module 3 Word
  • Please see the detailed instructions on how to
    register for the online training in the handout
    you have received

ECDL Exams
  • Exam sessions are held every Friday (including
    the summer) in the Computer Training Centre, 4th
    Floor, Kane Building
  • 9.30am
  • 11.30am
  • 2.15pm
  • To book an exam please email ecdl_at_ucc.ie with the
    following information
  • Name
  • Department
  • Student Number
  • Time of exam session
  • Module exam to be taken

Cost to Students
  • Skills card (1 skills card per student) 40.00
  • Each exam 10 each x 7 modules 70.00
  • Total Cost 110.00
  • Each repeat exam you sit also costs 10

ECDL Procedure
  • Complete Application Form
  • Student ECDL Testing Booking Form and Details
    (Applicant details)
  • Drop the application form to the Training Centre
    Office, 4th Floor Kane Building
  • Follow the instructions on the second handout to
    access the ECDL online training
  • Log on to http//tcentre.ucc.ie Go to online
    training link.
  • Create a username and password
  • ECDL Modules can be studied in any order.
  • Email ecdl_at_ucc.ie to book an exam date and time

  • Completed ECDL
  • If you have completed all the ECDL exams already
    and you have received your ECDL Certificate then
    you do not need to do ECDL again
  • Note ICS Skills allows you 3 years from the
    time you pass your first exam to complete ECDL
    Certification. If you go over this 3 year time
    limit then you have to start your ECDL again and
    re sit any exams already taken.
  • If you have completed some of the ECDL exams
  • Go to the test centre you were doing the exams
    with and get your original ECDL skills card
  • Bring the Skills Card to the Training Centre
    office
