Project goals

• The project goal is to assist countries eligible
  for GEF financial support, that have signed the
  Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, enabling them
  through development of their national frames for
  biosafety, to enter this Protocol into force.

Experience acquired and lessons learned

• Setting the grounds for the system of biosafety
  in our country
• Development of national biosafety vision
• The country response to Cartagena Protocol
  requirements related to biosafety
• Promotion of sub-regional, regional and
  international cooperation through exchange of
  experience in the domain of genetically modified
  organisms.

Proposals for improvements

• Provision of financial support by UNEP/GEF for
  the follow-up implementation phase of the
  national biosafety frame.
• Establishment of Clearing-house mechanism for
  biosafety.
