News about the town

• Catanzaro is both chief province and regional
  town .It is in Calabria , in the South of Italy
  and it has about 100.000 inhabitants . It is 10
  km distanced from the Ionio sea coast and is
  placed on a rocky hill between two torrents
  coming down from the Sila Piccola mountains.

The historical centre shows the typically
medieval town planning installation. The province
museum keeps the archaeological , numismatics
rich of valuable works of art. From Bellavista
Street you can enjoy a beautiful view facing the
Gulf of Squillace on the Ionio sea.

In these last years a new theatre and an
auditorium were built. There are,also, important
performances with well-known artists.

My name is Fabio Adamo , I live in Catanzaro
where I was born. Catanzaro is a town. It is
mainly hilly. It is our chief province and
regional town and it includes small surrounding
areas.

Hello my name is Danilo Barberio. Im 14 and Im
attending my first years High School. I was born
in Santa Maria in the Southern area of Catanzaro
and I live there with my family. At the moment
there are about 5.000 in habitants but new
quarters are rising in our area. There is a wide
open-air playground with a park where children
can play and there are a lot of sport centers
such as Santa Maria U.S. football school where I
go to play football..I like my town a lot. It is
small and its not a forefront town. There are a
lot of thinks we need and we dont have, but Im
very proud of my town.

Im Francesco Bianco, I live in Petronà it is a
town in the mountains at 900 metres above the
sea-level. We have lots of chestnut trees and
some chestnut factories too. There are two
churches, one of which is really big. My town has
about 3000 habitants. It is also called the
chestnut and mushroom town because we have
even mushrooms and factories working mushroom
based products to be exported abroad.

My name is Saverio Cerminara. I live in Siano a
very small area belonging to Catanzaro. There is
a nice pine wood with a playground for children,
park benches and tables. It is always full of
people during the holidays, mainly in August
they have picnics and take their children to
play. Every year we organize a festival in the
pine-wood park. Last year we had a really beauty
full one. We prepared some typical dishes such
as the morsello , the cannoli dessert with
sanguinaccio and we showed lots of local products
like tomatoes, chestnuts and so on.

My name is Marco Cosco. I live in Botricello , a
little town on the sea, 30Km from Catanzaro.
Botricello is famous for a special bread
taralli, with the form of a ring with diameter
of 15cm about,and that can be salt or sweet.
Anather famous cake is namedpittanchiusa.

My name's Giovanni, I'm 14 and I'm attending a
Vocational High School in Santa Maria. I'm tall
1.77 centimetres and I weigh 70Kg I was born in
CZ on 27th February 1991 and I live in a small
town that is the last village of the "Sila
Piccola" Mountains and in fact it's very cold.
This village is Petronà. In my family we're five
people my father Angelo, my mother Vincenzina,
my sister Daniela, my brother Pietro and me.

Im Mattia Fittante. My town is called Sellia
Superiore and it is on a hill. Its name has old
origin and it refers to its saddle shape. It
lies at the foot of the Sila Piccola mountains.
There are about 650 inhabitants and it is
surrounded by hills where olive trees are grown.
The most important festival is the Oil Festival
which usually takes place in the oldest center of
the town.

Hello Im Haji Mourad and Im 16. Im attending
in the first year high school and there are about
26 students in my class. I m slowly making
friends with my new schoolmates. Im not
Italian, Im Maroccan and I came to Italy five
years ago. I live in a very small town called
Soveria Simeri with my family. In family there
are nine people my parents, my five brothers, my
sister and me. Soveria Simeri is a very quiet
place, it has a rich environment and a beautiful
natural landscape .

Gagliano is a small town in Calabria near
Catanzaro. My place has got a lot of churches.
During the year we usually have some fairs which
gather a lot of people. One of them is the
antiques exhibition that takes place on our main
street . The most ancient objects are shown and
local artisans display their best handmade works
such as frames, statues, pictures, and soon. Wood
is the most employed material them work. Gagliano
is not a developed town, there are not many shops
but it has a nice main street where we can freely
walk in the evening when there is no
thoroughfare. My town is a warm and friendly
place. The people who come on holiday are always
the same and we all know one another .Im Ivan
Perlongo.

My name is Antonio Rocca, I'm 15. I'm tall and a
little sturdy. I've got brown eyes and my hair is
brown too. I live in Petronà, a town in the
mountain where you can find chestnuts and
mushrooms. There are two small establishments a
chestnut one and a textile one. I live exactly
near then in the Fra Paolo area it is a very
nice place surrounded by nature. Sometimes I go
and see the people working in the two factories.
On 9 th November we always have the "caldarroste"
festival there are roast chestnuts sellers and
the parish group organises a big show on the town
stage.

Hello, I am Simone and I live in Gagliano, a town
included in the area of Catanzaro. My town is
very small it has nearly 800 inhabitants. There
are two very old churches. I usually spend my
free time in the little town square with my
friends on Saturdays we go to Catanzaro because
there arent many places where we can meet and
spend our free time there are only some football
clubs.

My name is Spadafora Francesco. I am fourteen and
I come from Sersale, a small town in the
province of Catanzaro. There are five people in
my family my dad, my mum, my sister Claudia
younger than me, and my brother Roberto, the
youngest of the family, and me. I play football
in the F. C. Real Sersale team, Im a weight
point and I wear number 9 T-shirt. I also enjoy
going swimming. I usually swim at Catanzaros
local indoor swimming-bath sponsored by F. I. N.,
the Italian swimming federation.

My name is Pierpaolo Talarico. Im14. I am 1.60
cm tall and I weigh 51 kg. I come from Petronà, a
small townin the mountains 60 km distant from my
school. During the week I live in a students
hostel in the centre of Catanzaro and it is
easier for me to go to school. There are five
people in my family my father, my mother , my
brother , my sister and me.

My name is Giovanni I am fourteen years old my
family is large there are five people in my
family, they are my mum Lina , my dad Franco, my
brothers Vitaliano and Giuseppe, my sister
Patrizia and Laura . I got black hairs, and my
two eyes are blue . I go to school I attend the
first year High School. I go to school by
motorbike . I like playing football. My favorite
football teams are Catanzaro and Roma .

Ìm Giuseppe Truglia and I live in Borgia, a town
distant about 30Km from Catanzaro and 10 from the
coast. In my town there is a fine Matrix Church
built at the half of the 18 th century. Its
tower was made in wood and lath. The old
structure was destroyed in 1948 and now there is
a new one, made of solid bricks which does not
suit much the style of the Church.

I am Fabrizio Turello. Im 14. Im 1,75 mt tall
and I weigh 63 kg. I live in the last town
placed in the Sila Piccola mountains Petronà .
There are about 3,000 inhabitants and it is at
1.000 mt. above the sea . Our mast common tree is
the chestnut tree. I know very little about
Greece and I would like to learn more. I hope you
will tell me something about your country. Bye

My names is Pietro Zappia. I live near the
castle of Roccelletta wich actually is a church
and it is called Basilica of Saint Mary of
Roccelletta, at 10Km from school. This monument
is placed in Scolacium Archeological Park. The
park lies on the ruins of the old greek town of
Skylletion and on those of the old roman town
called Scolacium. There is still an old Roman
theatre with parts of the gradine and of the
orchestra, the corner of the choir and the apse.
There is still the forum.
