1.Single Bit Axe
TOOL IDENTIFICATION
Building fence, cutting small trees and
construction work. Very versatile tool not to
be used as a sledge hammer on wedges or iron
stakes. Hickory Handle 36 inches long, oval in
cross section and shaped for good balance.

2 Double Bit Axe
TOOL IDENTIFICATION
Used to cut small trees, trim logs, and tree
tops. Two cutting edges pose a safety hazard
and should never be left in a vertical position.
Handles are 36 inches, oval, and straight.

3. Hand Axe
TOOL IDENTIFICATION
Used for sharpening stakes, cutting small limbs
and brush. Also used to drive small stakes,
grade stakes, and corner stakes.Handle similar to
single bit axe but smaller. Handle are 16 18
inches long.

4. Broad Hatchet
TOOL IDENTIFICATION
Designed to hew wood and reduce stock. The
cutting edge has a bevel of 25 30 degrees on
the right side. The other side has a straight
flat surface. This tools symmetrical shape makes
it easy for a left handed person to use. This
hatchet is frequently mistaken for a hand axe.

5. Shinglers Hatchet
TOOL IDENTIFICATION
Used for shingling and lathing. It has a bevel
on both sides and a serrated head. It has a
gauge that can be adjusted for desired shingle
exposure

6. Crow Bar
TOOL IDENTIFICATION
Used for heavy prying of stones, timbers and
machinery. It is normally, 4 to 5 feet long
with one end tapered round and the other end with
a chisel point.

7. Pry or Fitting Bar
TOOL IDENTIFICATION
Used for aligning bolt holes in fitting machinery
parts. It has a long round taper at one end and
a curved pry hook at the other end.

8. Ripping Bar
TOOL IDENTIFICATION
Used for pulling nail, wrecking buildings,
opening boxes and many other jobs. It has a
curved claw at one end and a flat tapered pry at
the other end. Usually made out of octagon
tempered steel. Also called a Wrecking Bar

9. Nail Puller
TOOL IDENTIFICATION
Used to pull nails. A pair of jaws are driven
into the wood below the nail head by impact
action of the handle.

10. Flat Pry Bar
TOOL IDENTIFICATION
Used for pulling nails, prying and lifting. Made
of forged steel for extra toughness with polished
and beveled cutting edges. Contoured flat bar,
with beveled nail slots at each end. Also called
a Wonder Bar

11. Auger Bit
TOOL IDENTIFICATION
Used to bore holes in wood. The point, lead,
screw, guides and draws the cutting parts, called
lips and spurs into the wood. The spurs score
the wood and the lips cut out the wood. Bits are
numbered by whole numbers. These numbers are in
fractions of sixteenths.

12. Bit Brace
TOOL IDENTIFICATION
Used for turning Auger bits, twist drills,
screwdriver bits, countersinks, and reamers. It
is made with and without a ratchet. The ratchet
makes it possible to bore in close quarters and
to drive large wood screws.

13. Carbide-tipped Masonry drill
TOOL IDENTIFICATION
Used for drilling holes in masonry and concrete.
The tip is treated with tungsten-carbide to
resist heat and wear

14. Hole Saw
TOOL IDENTIFICATION
Used to make clean round cuts in wood,
composition board, plastics, and soft metals.
Can be used in portable electric drills and drill
presses. Shaped like a circular steel cup with
teeth on the edge. A mandrel is used to attach
to the hole to enable it to be powered by a
drill. Sizes range from ¾ to 2 ½ inches
larger. One mandrel fits all.

15. Expansive Bit
TOOL IDENTIFICATION
Used to bore holes in wood 5/8 to 3 inches in
diameter. The cutters are adapted to the size
desired by a set screw. The shank is a square
taper, adapted for the bit brace.

16. Straight Shank Twist Drill
TOOL IDENTIFICATION
Used in a standard drill chuck. Used to cut wood
or metal. If used to cut hard steel at high
speeds, it should be made of high speed steel.

17. Star Drill
TOOL IDENTIFICATION
Used to Drive holes in concrete or masonry. The
drill point is temper hardened and looks like a
four point star. The shank is made of a high
grade octagon steel drill rod. It is operated by
striking with a hammer while rotating by hand.

18. Tapered Shank Twist Drill
TOOL IDENTIFICATION
Used in a drill press with a hallow morse taper
spindle and with out a chuck. The shank is
tapered and should never be used in a chuck.
Used to cut metal.
