The Four Seasons

2
What is a season?
  • The seasons are created based on the tilt of the
    Earth.
  • Each hemisphere of the Earth experiences the four
seasons at different times of the year, depending
on which part of the world is tilted towards the
    sun.

3
Fall
  • Leaves turn brown, red, yellow and purple and
    fall off the trees.
  • Neither hemisphere is more tilted towards the
sun, so there are no extreme hot or cold
    temperatures.
  • Fall starts September 22nd.
  • Halloween is during the fall.

4
Winter
  • The weather is so cold, the rivers, lakes and
ponds freeze and there is lots of snow.
  • The Northern Hemisphere is tilted farther from
    the sun.
  • Days are very short, and the sun isnt out much.
  • Winter starts on December 21st.
  • Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa are all in
    winter.

5
Spring
  • Plants begin to grow in the spring, usually
helped along by lots of rain and melting snow.
  • In spring, both hemispheres are equally close to
    the sun.
  • Spring starts March 20th.
  • Easter is celebrated in the spring.

6
Summer
  • Summer has very warm, sunny weather.
  • Days are longer, so the sun is out longer!
  • The North Hemisphere is tilted towards the sun.
  • The first day of summer is June 21st.
  • One of the most celebrated holidays of summer is
    Independence Day.

7
Which of the seasons has the longest days?
