Title: ME: AN EARTHLY TABERNACLE

1
ME AN EARTHLY TABERNACLE?
1 Cor. 39-17
2
Introduction
  • Parallel between the Tabernacle and
  • our body
  • Both were used to worship God.
  • They were temporary in nature.
  • God was present in both.
  • Feast of Tabernacle was one of the
  • major festivals of the Israelites.

3
  • Men were required to attend
  • (Deut. 1616).
  • During this time celebrants lived
  • in tents (tabernacles) so as to
  • commemorate the period of
  • wandering in the wilderness
  • (Lev. 2340-42).
  • Our sojourn here is but a brief
  • stay and should remind us of
  • temporary nature here for
  • worship with God present in us.

4
THE TABERNACLE OF LIFE
  • Unless the Lord builds the house,
  • They labor in vain who build it
  • Unless the Lord guards the city,
  • The watchman stays awake in vain
  • (Ps. 1271).
  • There has got to be
  • a place for God in
  • our building a life.
  • There is a time to build and a time
  • to break down now is the time to
  • build (Ecc. 33). Pitch vs. strike.

5
  • Remember now the Creator in
  • the days of thy youth (Ecc. 121).
  • We are to be careful so that we will
  • not build upon some other mans
  • foundation (Rom. 1520).
  • Trying to slide by on someone
  • elses righteousness.
  • The burden of proof for being
  • saved is placed upon the
  • individual (Phil 212).

6
  • Paul quoted Isaiah to instill in them
  • individual responsibility as being a
  • tabernacle to the glory of God (Rom.
  • 1520-21)

To whom He was not announced, they
shall see And those who have not heard
shall understand.
(Isa. 5215).
7
  • Paul gave warnings about giving
  • heed to the building process
  • (1 Cor. 311-17).
  • We need to avoid building on
  • improper footing.
  • For no other foundation can
  • anyone lay than that which is
  • laid, which is Jesus Christ
  • (1 Cor. 311).
  • Cannot be on uncertainties as
  • Wood, hay, stubble (1 Cor. 312).

8
THE TABERNACLE OF DEATH
  • Yes, I think it is right, as long as I
  • am in this tent, to stir you up by
  • reminding you, knowing shortly I
  • must put off my tent, just as our Lord
  • Jesus showed me (2 Pet. 113-14).
  • This tent is to be put off in death.

9
  • We transition to a permanent
  • dwelling where mortal puts
  • on immortality (1 Cor. 15).
  • Emphasis to those remaining
  • behind was to remember what
  • they had been taught to make
  • their calling and election sure
  • (2 Pet. 110).

THE TABERNACLE AS A NETWORK
  • We are as living stones (1 Pet. 25),
  • built upon Jesus, the chief corner-
  • stone (Eph. 220 1 Pet. 26-7).

10
  • The foundation includes the
  • apostles, prophets, and Jesus
  • being the chief cornerstone
  • (Eph. 220).
  • These men represent the solidness
  • of truth which they taught.
  • It was upon this truth which the
  • church made up of living stones
  • was to be built (Matt. 1618).
  • Our lives here are earthly tents
  • for heavenly occupation!

We are a Holy Temple in the Lord, and built
together for a dwelling place of God in the
Spirit
Eph. 221-22
