What is PAYP? - PAYP is a holiday/diversionary
programme - Aimed at 8 19 year olds - It
builds on and replaces Connexions Summer Plus,
Splash, Splash Extra and Community Cohesion
funding - Designed to support young people
aged 8-19 at risk of involvement in crime and
social exclusion across the country from April
2003 to March 2006.

Objectives
  • Reduce crime and anti social behaviour.
  • Support young people back into education,
    training or employment.
  • Bring together young people from different
    geographical areas and ethnic communities.
  • Give young people opportunities in personal
    development including the development of self
    discipline, self respect and self confidence
    enabling them to communicate more effectively
    with a range of people and work effectively in a
    team.
  • Provide quality arts, sports and cultural
    activities, and allow those with an interest
    and/or talent in area to continue after the
    programme has ended.
  • Encourage young people to contribute to their
    communities through volunteering and active
    citizenship.

Role of Key Worker
  • Support young people in accessing sport,
    environmental, arts and educational activities.
  • Engage young people in mainstream
    activities/projects.
  • Provide young people with opportunities in
    training, education employment.
  • Sign post young people to professional agencies
    for support, information advice.
  • Deliver educational, sport and arts projects.

Referral process
  • Referral can be made by any professional
    organisation.

Step 1 Agency contact with young person
Step 2 Identify whether PAYP will meet Young
persons needs.
Step 3 Young person agrees with referral
Step 4 Complete referral form
Step 5 Key Worker contact with Referring
agency

Step 6 Key worker, initial contact with young
person. Complete APIR Action Plan.
Step 7 Start delivering Podium/Arts/Flexible
Curriculum, including sign posting, referring
etc.
