Lt. N. Parthiban KC (Posthumous)
son born on 21 august 1983 becomes martyr on 7th
Oct 2006...
Have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears
and sweat, then you will not be ashamed to look
at the mirror... N.
PARTHIBAN 2005
2
  • We named him as Parthi...meant Arjun who
fights for the truth n its glory with Lord
    Krishna!

3
During science exhibition, addressing the crowd
as Defense minister at Calcutta

  • in 1999

4
As Sgt.while training at OTA (Philora company)...

5
As a cadet!
  • When he won boxing at OTA for his Philora
    company

6
  • But then he was brought home wrapped in our
    Tri colour flag...!

7
Final rites
  • Sedhukarai...some km before Rameshwaram...a
auspicious place where we did our Parthi's last
    rites...

8
His kirthi Chakra,
  • youngest officer to get the same
  • in 2006

9
His studies
  • We didnt know the other nick name of himas
    KALABAN, name inspired by his
scientific mind (from our President Mr. Abdul
Kalams name), which was given by his college
mateswe didnt know until, he was brought back
to our house wrapped in our National flag
  • Well, he started his Masters in Physics from
BHC Trichy, when he received his call letter for
joining Officers Training Academy, at St Thomas
Mount, Chennai. He impatiently waited for his
merit list soon after clearing his Combined
Defense Service Examination and Service Selection
    Board interview respectively

10
Intelligent and Good natured guy as well
  • Yes he scored 86 in his CBSE 12th std at KV
IIT, Chennai. The prize he won as orator, also
number of physics quizzesdescribes about him
    better.
  • He was such a considerate person, used to
    help neighbors friends voluntarily in
    rectifying their electronic goods.
  • I would say, he was the only mature child of
our family. He used to be so specific in his
words, so decent and disciplinedmannerism could
be learnt from him in every single step he
    tookand also protective brother..!

11
NCC was the base and inspiration apart from
being from the army background
  • NCC became the base of his inspiration to be
an army officer. He joined senior wing NCC in his
college, got his C certificate and came out be
a successful senior as well, by helping his
juniors in securing 100 result in their B
    certificate examination under his guidance
    leadership.
  • We still go through the letter mailed to my
father, stating Papa I will meet you in OTA
soon And as he promised to our papa, he
underwent his training enthusiastically and was
appointed as a Sergeant at the academy
  • It as a kind of Josh he had to join the
Indian Armythough we knew he was so much into
Electronics and Computer sciencehe started his
part time work on the same during his college
    days.

Lt. N. Parthibans Poem...
  • Operation future
  • March ahead my noble soldier,
  • As our safety rests on your shoulder.
  • You live by chance and love by choice.
  • Where there is nothing to rejoice.
  • You have the heart to bear all pain.
  • Moving through sun, snow and rain,
  • Yours is a breed that fights like a king.
  • For you, its never a personal thing
  • You are my role model without a question
  • As you lead, protect and kill by profession.
  • Be it a regular duty or a CI operation.
  • With death always looming near,
  • You keep vigil without fear.
  • You are the one who lives for the country's name.
  • Not caring for money, glamour or fame.
  • You are the one- the leader of the game
  • And I would like to become the same.

  • CI- Counter

Another sensational poem
  • Fond memories....She thought everything
was over. And he was gone forever. He was dead,
thats what every one thought. But he lived by the
flowers he had bought.Out there, he was always
    thinking,Without her, nothing had any
meaning. The flowers had lots of things to
say.To show his feelings, he had found a
way.He always lived by chance. So he paid the
florist in advance. The flowers kept coming, No
matter what she was doingOn her birthday or any
other occasionThe flowers brought her greetings
for the season. She could just hold the flowers
close to her heartAnd think about the way they
had to part. But the flowers kept comingTelling
her to keep going.Going through times travelled
and untravelled Life and death never mattered
for him, she recalledExcept that he always loved
her, his lady in red.The days kept going...The
    flowers kept coming...N. Parthiban M Sc. 2005

for his senior...
  • Capt. T. Sahaya Selvaraj SM (P)
  • A Winner and an Alumni of HonorCapt. T.
Sahaya Selvaraj graduated in physics from Bishop
Heber College in April 2000. He joined the Indian
Army through NCC special entry scheme and
excelled in his basic training. He completed his
SSC (NT) course and passed out from the officers
Training Academy on 7th sent 2002. He was
selected for the prestigious Electrical and
Mechanical Engineers (EME) Corps and was posted
to 4 GARHWAL RIFLES which was intensely in the
counter insurgency operation OP RAKSHAK". An
operation which was a befitting answer to the
attack on the parliament. On 6th may 2003, he
and his men were detailed to intercept a group of
terrorists in JK. The young lieutenant carefully
planned the attack, but against the reported
numbers the enemy troops outnumbered them in
strength and had much more sophisticated weapons.
Then, the young lieutenant was faced with a
choice. Before him were terrorists who would do
an irreparable damage to our country. While
behind him lay life, fame and a home. More than a
year has passed since he made his decision. And
even today, his comrades tell of his unflinching
determination and raw courage. He was killed in
action that day trying to make India a bit more
secure. For his brave deeds on the field and his
supreme sacrifice, he was awarded the Sena Medal
(gallantry) by the president of India,
    posthumously.The late Capt. T. Sahay Selvaraj's
career lasted just nine months, but he will live
on for ever. He is one of the many sons of India,
who have laid down their lives to make this a
safer country. We Heberians are proud to belong
to the college that was his alma mater.

16
More about this Martyr.
  • We have been informed about his initiative
by his co- NCC matesIn fact, he with his friends
created a trophy to be awarded to the Best
platoon in the name of Late. Capt. Sahaya
Selvaraj, ex- NCC cadet from the same college,
who was also killed in action in Jammu
Kashmirhe also wrote a very inspiring article
about this senior, which was published in his
    college magazine
  •
  •  He was so thoughtful and got involved
immensely in the same way as other martyrs like
Lt. Manoj Pandey, Capt. Vikram Bathra etc,
posthumous PVC Gallantry awardees, but did he
ever knew! he was going to become the same, would
sacrifice himself in the successive year..!
  •
  • March 18th he had his passing out parade
at OTA, remember after his piping out ceremony,
he marched towards my papa, who is a retired
major of Indian Army, saluted himI saw tears
flowing from them. I wish you could come and see
my mother, always busy with his photos taken
during all the stages of his life, which
are only treasure for us.. and my younger sister
remains watching silently and crying inside

17
Cont.
  • We still feel he could have served for some
more years in the armyrather than finishing his
commissioned service in 6 months and 19
days.soon after a years training in the OTA
  •
  • Going through his write ups and inspiring
words, actually made us thinkhe was very
confident and had planned well before about his
future.it made us feel he is the one who could
be called as the real patriotic of this soil
  •
  • Very articulate his thoughts were
  •
  • Born to do
  • Aim of his beingand
  • Proved to be a true Son, a Brother, and
    a Buddy and a National
  • a true youth of this Mother Land
  •

Inspiration in his words
  • " Yeh dil maange more"Some goals are so
worthy, it is glorious even to fail"- Lt. Manoj
Pandey PVC 1/11GRCAPT. Vikram Batra PVC 13 JAK
RIFReading these lines for the first time was a
hair rising experience for me. And knowing the
circumstances under which they were said, I was
shocked beyond belief. Both of them were men,
about my age, laying down their lives for the
country and saying nothing but inspiring words.
The words just kept echoing in my mind and made
me take a serious look at my aim less life. The
Then it came to my mind, like a flash of light,
as to what i should do. I joined the NCC.ARMY
WING of our collegeJoining the NCC was not
easy and serving it for three years was even more
"not easy". I had to toil hard on the field with
75 odd cadets. But then there was something in
the NCC that kept me going with new zeal and
enthusiasm. That something, I was to know in the
next three years, was the seed for my new life.
Those three years were actually a long journey,
which I undertook as a student, but finished up
as a winner and a man.Going down memory lane, I
still remember my first parade. I just coundnt
run and fell right down on my face. And instead
of helping me up, the senior most cadet shouted
at me "Can't you run jus four rounds in this
ground? I got a useful pointer then life is
not going to be a bed of roses. Then time went on
at blink- and you -will- miss speed. I became a
second year cadet, attended various camps and
finally became a third year senior cadet. This
was the time when we third years learnt the great
rule followed by all army officers, the credo of
the Indian Military Academy, which says-The
safety, honor and welfare of yourCountry come
first, always and every time. The honors, welfare
and comforts of theMen you command come
next. You own ease, comfort and safety comeLast,
    always and every time"
  • Apart from this, I learnt the real
meaning of team work, human relations, man and
    material management, resourcefulness, tack,
sacrifice, camaraderie, the concept of service,
the thing called life and leading from the
front. The NCC helped me to get face to face
with real life situations and is helping
thousands of others in this regards. The NCC
today is a 1.3 million strong force which is
constantly striving hard to make India the VISION
INDIA, the proof of which lies in the huge human
resource of khaki clad cadets and my respect for
    them.JAIHIND

His last ever call made to home on 5th Oct 2006
  • Jus a day before this incident, he had
made a call to us, and some of his friends at
Trichy, we were glad to hear him, but now its his
    last call made to us...
  • when i asked him how is he...told didi
    all fine..living king's life...would never speak
    anything other then this..
  • and was asking me any improvement at
Pammal, have they started Meenampakkam Airport
extension work...and what about 100 feet road..?
  • i was shocked ? i said yaar, you speak
    whats happening there...and then i said "i
replied back to him.. they have started with some
construction on the way towards Pammal...!
  • On hearing that, he asked me ok, tell me
what kind of construction is going on there...?
  •
  • i was blinking because i didnt know
exactly, what was happening....! so i just told
him frankly...yaar i dont know, will tell you
when you call us next time...
  •
  • for this he said.....what didi you dont
know what is happening in our own locality,..hmm
anyways i have to get going now...and didnt even
    say bye...
  •
  • then he never called us to know.....

21
One of his immense thought!
  • His inner wish wasto see a better Pammal..a
better place to livepeople keep coming and
going...an initiative has not be taken yet...for

made into a beautiful, proud, developed place to
live...should be made known to our
nation....because his last rites were done
    here.....his body was brought here....his
    memories are here....

Lt. Parthiban memorable moment
  • The Uncertainty Principle In LifeLife
is an endless journey, full of emotions, some
pleasant and some not so pleasant. But there are
some incidents, which are like movie trailers.
They keep on playing in the head again and
again.I remember one such incident in Nagpur. I
was there for a camp at the NCC Officers Training
Academy. Near the academy, there was a small park
and on the lastday of the camp, I went there for
a walk. The park was deserted except for a man
and very young boy. They were playing and running
all over the park. It was a kind of scene, which
could make anybody feel good. The man would say
"OK lets go home now and the boy would say with
unlimited vigor and enthusiasm "daddy just five
more minutes". I was amused as this went on and
on and they played for more than two hours.
Finally they sat on a bench near mine and man
smiled at me.Returning the smile, I told him
"Sir, you must be the most patient and wonderful
of all fathers". At ths the man just grinned and
looked up into the evening sky. When he looked at
me again he was a completely changed man with
tears in his eyes. He told me a story. It seems
that he had a daughter, aged seven, who always
wanted to play with him and spend sometime with
him. But, for him, his work was more important.
He soon realized his mistake as his daughter died
in a road accident. he could never play with her,
ever for five minutes.Back in the academy, I
was punished for coming late into barracks but i
learnt something that day. Life is completely
unpredictable and no one can ever see the future.
If we love somebody, we have to show it somehow.
That night, I got an out pass and went out to the
only phone booth in the academy. I called up my
parents and told them that I loved them.
