  • Hindus consider the Ganges River to be holy.
  • Ganges purifies the souls of people who bathe in
    it or drink its water
  • Hindus worship the river as a goddess and believe
    the river has healing powers

  • Intense Human Use -scatter the ashes of the dead
    in the river, corpses and dead animals are thrown
    in the river, raw sewage, industrial waste
  • People who bathe and drink the water become very
    ill typhoid, hepatitis, or cholera

    education and address social problems
