What is a fraction?

• A fraction is a part of something.
• When you say I am 8 ½ years old, you are using a
  fraction.

• When you share a candy bar with a friend, each of
  you is getting only a fraction, a part, of a bar.
  
• Each time you eat a slice of a pizza, you are
  eating a fraction, a part of the pie.
