4
Why Culture and Language
  • DJS comments at November MECC
  • Everyone likes language because it is
measurable. We make it Language (big L) and
culture (little c) instead of vice versa. We
need to change that paradigm and start thinking
about how to measure, or what items are
    measurable WRT culture.
  • At the next MECC, lets discuss ideas for
cultural awareness training what are the trade
offs, what help do you need at JS or OSD to make
    it happen, etc.

5
Measurements Trade Offs
  • Two elements of measurement
  • Cognitive
  • Knowledge and comprehension
  • Necessary for later application
  • Affective
  • Valuing and beyond
  • May call for expansion of OPMEP to include
    Affective domain
  • Trade Offs
  • Zero sum game
  • May be able to apply DL to make learning
    available
  • DOD should break language and culture apart
  • Above our pay grade

6
Future Conferences
  • Offers venue for DLCC to focus on a topic
  • ROI is questioned
  • Looking at multiple options
  • Linking spring DLCC meeting to another conference
  • Running conference on 2- or 3-year cycle
  • Combination

7
Service Capabilities Lessons
  • Service lead agent develops lesson
  • All MECC schools are in the initial stages of
    development
  • Members will send what they have to JFSC and we
will post for review and discussion
  • JFSC identified 46 AJPME lessons
  • 27 have potential for sharing
  • 11 are questionable
  • 8 are not probable

8
SCORM
  • Business Practices
  • Adopted 18 practices to facilitate sharing across
    the MECC
  • Looking at 4 more over time
  • Style Guide
  • JKDDC has a style guide we will use for reference
  • June meeting planned for instructional designers
to address common approaches for style

9
Content Access
  • FOUO
  • Some areas of curricula are becoming difficult to
teach without FOUO references (Force Protection)
  • FOUO is limited for DL applications
  • DLCC will develop recommendation for next MECC WG
  • CAC Access
  • Cannot access JDEIS from home without CAC (long
    term)
  • More Services are making CAC readers available to
    personnel
  • Requires static IP address
  • DLCC has no solution

10
OPMEP Direction
  • JPME Learning Objectives. Non-resident programs
must meet the JPME learning objectives assigned
    to their respective resident institutions.
    Non-resident curricula and related educational
products and materials should derive from and
closely parallel the Program of Instruction
    (POI)/curriculum of their respective resident
institutions. The differences between the two
types of programs are primarily in the specific
delivery methodology and techniques employed to
achieve the PME and JPME learning objectives.

JKDDC
  • JKDDC would like a conduit between JPME and
    training
  • Format of JPME makes that unfeasible
  • Can use JPME as common portal for information
    about JPME opportunities
  • Learning Management System (LMS)
  • JKDDC using Atlas Pro (GOTS system)
  • Offered it for use to anyone needing an LMS
  • Hosting
  • JKDDC offered to host content

13
EMERC Participation
  • MECC W/G approved EMERC participation with DLCC
  • EMERC W/G elected to participate as
    adjunct/observer
  • Maintains separation between EPMEP and OPMEP
  • EMERC will maintain awareness of DL issues via
    the DLCC
  • They will address any DL issues via a separate
    body

14
Conclusions
  • Culture and Language conference a success
  • BZ to NPS team for their support
  • A number of issues identified that will be
    reconciled by the next meeting
  • Next meeting planned for week of 17 September
  • Site Leavenworth or Quantico
