WS Case History
  • Left hemisphere CVA at age 59.
  • CT scan Lesion involving the inferior frontal,
    pre-central and anterior superior temporal gyri.
  • Clinical picture anomic aphasia and a right
    hemiparesis affecting the upper limb.
  • Work and social history
  • Occupation lithographer in a printing shop.
  • Education Completed 12th grade and two years of
    technical school.
  • Interests Reading, politics, movies and
    traveling.
  • Family He has a close relationship with his
    wife. His children are grown. His son lives at
    home, and his daughter lives in another state.

Results and Concluding Diagnosis of Anomia
  • Results consistent with anomic aphasia.
  • Comprehension - good
  • Repetition - good
  • Naming - Severely impaired
  • Words could be elicited with sentence completion
    or phonemic cues. and word fluency subtests,
    but better performance was
  • Naming errors include no responses,
    circumlocutions and some semantic errors.
