1. Clean all parts and inspect all parts. If any
parts are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar
parts for replacement.

2. Use Tooling (A) to install the inner lip seal
(16) to the spindle. Install the lip seal until
the lip seal is even with the inner surface of
the spindle. Install the lip seal with the spring
side of the lip seal away from the tooling. Pack
needle bearing (17) with 5P-0960 Molybdenum
Grease before installation. Use Tooling (A) to
install needle bearing (17) to the spindle.
Install the needle bearing until the needle
bearing is seated against the lip seal. Use
Tooling (A) to install outer lip seal (16).
Install the lip seal until the lip seal is seated
against the needle bearing. Install the lip seal
with the spring side of the lip seal toward the
tooling. Lubricate the lip seals with 5P-0960
Molybdenum Grease after installation.

install outer lip seal (14) to the spindle.
Install the lip seal until the lip seal is even
with the surface of the spindle. Install the lip
seal with the spring side of the lip seal away
from the tooling. Pack needle bearing (15) with
5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease before installation.
Use Tooling (A) to install needle bearing (15) to
the spindle. Install the needle bearing until the
needle bearing is seated against the inner lip
seal. Use Tooling (A) to install outer lip seal
(14) to the spindle. Install the lip seal until
the lip seal is seated against the needle
bearing. Install the lip seal with the spring
side of the lip seal toward the tooling.
Lubricate the lip seals with 5P-0960 Molybdenum
Grease after installation.

(13) and brake camshaft (12) to the spindle.

adjuster (10) to brake camshaft (12). Install
retaining ring (11) that secures slack adjuster
(10) to brake camshaft (12). Position slack
adjuster (10) to the brake actuator. Install pin
(9) that secures slack adjuster (10) to the brake
actuator. Install cotter pin (8) that secures pin
(9) to the slack adjuster (10) and the brake
actuator.

assemblies (4) to the spindle. Install two pins
(7) that secure shoe assemblies (4) to the
spindle. Position the flat spot on the pins with
the bolts in the spindle.

washers and two retainers (9) to two pins (7).
Install two springs (8) that secure the felt
washers and two retainers (9) to two pins (7).
Tighten bolt (6) that secures pin (7) to the
spindle. Repeat the procedure for the other pin.
Install wire (5) to two bolts (6) .

Improper assembly of parts that are spring loaded
can cause bodily injury. To prevent possible
injury, follow the established assembly procedure
and wear protective equipment.
8. Use Tooling (B) to install two springs (3) to
shoe assemblies (4) .

    Install the washers and four bolts (1) that
    secure two dust shields (2) to the spindle.
  • Adjust the service brakes. Refer to the Testing
    and Adjusting, "Air System and Brakes" service
    manual for the correct adjustment procedure.
  • End By Install the tire. Refer to Disassembly
    and Assembly, "Wheel, Wheel Bearings and Duo-
    Cone Seals - Install".

Dispose of all fluids according to local
regulations and mandates.

lifting device around apron cylinder (1) .

  • Put identification marks on all lines, hoses,
    wires, and tubes for installation purposes. Plug
    all lines, hoses and tubes. This helps prevent
    fluid loss and contamination of the oil system.
  • Remove two hose assemblies (2) and attach Tool
    (A) in order to prevent the apron cylinder from
    drifting during removal.
  • Remove bracket assembly (3) and lower apron
    cylinder (1) to the ground.
  • The apron cylinder weighs 191 kg (420 lb). The
    bracket assembly weighs 33.5 kg (73.85 lb).

Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids

NOTICE Keep all parts clean from
contaminants. Contamination of the hydraulic
system with foreign material will reduce the
service life of the hydraulic system
components. To prevent contaminants from entering
the hydraulic system, always plug or cap the
lines, fittings, or hoses as they are
disconnected. Cover any disassembled components
and clean them properly before assembly. Clean
the hydraulic system properly after any major
component exchange or especially after a
component failure, to remove any contamination.

  • Park the machine on a hard level surface. The
    ejector must be at the rear of the bowl in order
    to start the removal process.
  • Install cribbing in order to level the scraper
    bowl. Level the scraper bowl in order to keep the
    ejector assembly from moving, when the ejector
    cylinder is disconnected.

  • Remove the carry-check valve. Refer to
    Disassembly and Assembly, "Check Valve (Carry and
    Quick Drop) - Remove".

Cylinders equipped with lock valves can remain
pressurized for very long periods of time, even
with the hoses removed. Failure to relieve
pressure before removing a lock valve or
disassembling a cylinder can result in personal
injury or death. Ensure all pressure is relieved
before removing a lock valve or disassembling a
cylinder.
