  2. Install bearing cup (27) (not shown) onto spindle
    (21).
  3. Install bearing (24) (not shown) onto shaft (23).

final drive housing. Use guide bolts (22) in
order to prevent damage to the bearings.

  • Install nineteen bolts (20) in spindle (21).
    Tighten bolts to a torque of 300 40 Nm (220.0
    30.0 lb ft).
  • Heat bearing (25) to a maximum temperature of
    120 C (248 F). Do not heat the bearing longer
    than eight hours. Install bearing (25) on spindle
    (21). Put clean oil on the bearing.
  • Install seal ring (26) and the toric ring, if the
    Duo-cone seal kit was replaced.

  1. Heat bearing (32) to a maximum temperature of
    120 C (248 F). Do not heat the bearing longer
    than right hours.
  2. Coat the shaft with oil. Install bearing (32).

  • Install ring gear (14).
  • Note This step can be accomplished with a press,
    if a large enough press is available. If a large
    enough press is not available, use plate (13) and
    bolts (12). Tighten the bolts. Alternate 180
    degrees from each other in order to prevent the
    bearing from binding.
  • Turn the sprocket in order to seat the bearing by
    applying a gradual load against plate (13).
  • Hold the force. Install three bolts (12).
    Alternate 120 degrees from each other. Tighten
    the bolts to a torque of 95 10 Nm (65.0 7.0
    lb ft).
  • Remove the force and tighten nine bolts (12) to a
    torque of 300 40 Nm (220.0 30.0 lb ft).

  • Install cover (9) and six bolts (8).

    (16). The approximate weight of the final drive
    is 636 kg (1400 lb). Install the final drive.
  • Install the bolts that hold the final drive to
    the frame. Remove the lifting device.

during performance of inspection, maintenance,
testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be
prepared to collect the fluid with suitable
containers

before opening any compartment or disassembling
any component containing fluids. Refer to Special
Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and
Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies
suitable to collect and contain fluids on
Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids
according to local regulations and mandates.

track motor (2), as shown. Remove four mounting
bolts (1) and remove track motor (2). The weight
of the track motor is 82 kg (180.0 lb).

    screw (16) to the machined part of housing
  • (12). Make a note of the dimension in order to
    refer to the dimension during reassembly.
  • Loosen locknut (18) until the locknut is flush
    with the top of adjustment screw (16). Turn
    adjustment screw (16) clockwise in order to
    release tension on spring (17).
