WHAT IS THE BOILER UPGRADE SCHEME? Heating
systems of a building can be upgraded to use less
carbon under the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. In order
to assist the installation of heat pumps and
biomass boilers in houses and non-domestic
buildings in England and Wales, it offers
upfront capital energy saving grants.

FOR HOW MUCH MONEY CAN INSTALLERS REQUEST?

• In their capacity as agents for property owners,
  installers may apply for
• Savings of 5000 on the purchase price and
  installation of an air source heat pump.
• A purchase discount of 5000 on a biomass boiler
  installation.
• A ground source heat pump, including water source
  heat pumps, can be purchased and installed for
• 6,000 less.

ROLE OF THE OFGEM

• The program's administrator is Ofgem. Its
  obligations consist of
• distributing instructions to potential installers
• handling voucher redemption requests and voucher
  application requests
• after successful voucher redemption applications,
  paying installers, providing reports on the
  operation of the Boiler Upgrade Scheme,
  monitoring, and enforcing compliance with the
  legislation

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

• You might be qualified if you
• are a resident of England or Wales
• are owners of second homes and private landlords
• own a piece of land (a home or a small non-
  domestic property)

PROPERTY
QUALIFICATION

• Small non-domestic and domestic properties are
  eligible for the programme if they have
• a maximum 45 kWh installation capacity
• a valid energy performance certificate (EPC),
  with no outstanding loft or cavity wall
  insulation recommendations
• Grants are not offered to public housing, newly
  constructed homes and properties where a heat
  pump or biomass boiler has previously received
  government funding or support.

PRODUCTS UNDER ENERGY SAVING GRANTS

• Grants are exclusively offered to
• heat pumps with air sources,
• wood-fired boilers,
• thermal pumps that use groundwater (including
  water source heat pumps and those on shared
  ground loops), and
• hybrid heat pump systems, including those that
  combine an air source heat pump and a gas boiler.
