Title: Air Conditioner Ideas that Keeps Repairman Away
1Air Conditioner Ideas that Keeps Repairman Away
2Regular maintenance is necessary for an air
conditioner to work effectively and efficiently
over its many years of service. In order to
maintain a consistent level of air conditioning
performance, it is important to not neglect
necessary maintenance. However, energy
consumption will continue to rise.
3Air Conditioner Filters
- Central air conditioners have filters located
along the length of the return duct. Common
locations for filters are in walls, ceilings, or
the air conditioner. The filter is located in the
grill and faces the room. - Some filters can be reused while others need to
be replaced. There are many types available and
they can be used in different ways. Your window
air conditioner filter(s) should be changed or
cleaned every other month during the cooling
season. If your air conditioner is used
constantly, is exposed to dusty conditions or if
you have fur-bearing animals in the home, filters
may require more frequent attention. -
4Dirty AC
- Over the years, dirt builds up on the condenser
and evaporator coils of an air conditioner. The
evaporator coil will not become soiled quickly if
it has a clean filter. However, dirt will
eventually build up on the evaporator coil. The
dirt can reduce airflow and insulate the coil,
which will decrease its ability to absorb heat.
This problem can be avoided by checking your
evaporator coil once a year and cleaning it as
needed. - If the outside environment is dusty, or there is
vegetation nearby, outdoor condenser coils may
also get very dirty. It is easy to see the
condenser coil, and you can notice dirt on its
fins.
5- Coils
- Aluminum fins found on condenser and evaporator
coils can be bent easily and block airflow. A
"fincomb", a tool that can be used to comb the
fins back to their original condition, is
available from wholesalers of air conditioning.
- Condensate Drains
- Pass a stiff wire occasionally through the drain
channels of your unit. A blocked drain channel
can prevent the unit from reducing humidity. The
resulting excessive moisture could cause damage
to walls and carpet.
