2- Constructivism
- Constructivism is a philosophical approach to
learning that empowers the learner to develop
their own knowledge base by building upon what
they already know. This is significantly
different from the traditional method of
learning, where the teacher was solely
responsible for developing the learners
knowledge base. A constructivist teaching
approach, therefore, is essentially based on
methods intended to provide new experiences,
allowing learners to build on what they already
know, understand and can do with increasing
independence. - Therefore what is the ISSUE?
- Direct teaching follows the notion that the
teacher instructs the student how to learn. The
teacher primarily presents information in a one
way fashion. - Inquiry promotes the notion that students learn
by doing and the teacher allows students to
discover knowledge and therefore information
through a variety of mediums. - What is ICT (Information or Educational
Communication Technology)? - The most relevant definition that summarises what
is ICT is from - Roblyers Integrating Technology into Teaching
- Educational Technology is a combination of the
processes and tools involved in addressing
educational needs and problems, with an emphasis
on applying the most current tools computers and
other electronic technologies p 9.
3- How does ICT fit into the picture of integration
within the curriculum?
To summarise Whether a teacher uses a direct or
inquiry method of teaching either approach is
designed to allow students to develop relevant
ICT skills for the technological environment in
which they live. The necessary skills of ICT are
developed through the process of creating within
the school environment a semblance of real life.
