  Planning Organization and Northcentral Planning
  Organization
• Design was revised to include a box culvert to
  provide safe passage for pedestrians/bicyclists
  under US 219
• The passage will become part of a future Rails to
  Trail project

  revitalization project
• Transit Center is a mixed use and
  joint-development project involving the City,
  River Valley Transit, business organizations,
  developers
• Hub for city buses and houses the Community
  Theatre League and Chamber of Commerce
• Approximately 2,000 passengers go through transit
  center daily

• High bicycle and pedestrian area
• Community desired a gateway design into

• Bicycle facilities designed in collaboration with
  Lancaster bicycle clubs, Amtrak, Red Rose
  Transit, and County
• Bicycle facility lane markings and "share the
  road" signs were installed.

• New Girard Ave / I-95 interchange needed to
  address congestion, repair existing
  infrastructure, and reconnect neighborhood to
  Delaware River
• Incorporated bike lanes, sidewalks, and multi-use
  path connection to East Coast Greenway
• Access to and accommodation of Girard Ave trolley
  was critical

• Existing spaghetti design connects Route 356
  from Westmoreland to Butler and Armstrong
  Counties across the Allegheny River
• 13 intersections and 3 weave conditions within a
  confined area
• Project aims to reduce weave areas, eliminate
  skewed intersections, and reduce travel times

• Final design incorporates multi-use path and
  allows for future trail connection

• 12M Renovation and conversion of old Mon Con
  railroad bridge to a 2-lane vehicular bridge
  (June 2000)
• 10M Conversion and rehabilitation of parallel
  Hot Metal Steel Bridge for pedestrians and
  bicyclists (November 2007)
• Both offer direct connection between 2 of the
  citys most significant redevelopment areas
  Technology Corridor and the South Side Works.
• Both bridges are perfect examples of the
  retention of historic structures for uses
  different from their original intent.

  Authority in collaboration with the County,
  various trail and historic preservation groups,
  and PennDOT District 11
• Hot Metal Bridge provides a missing link of the
  Three Rivers Heritage Trail and the Great
  Allegheny Passage, a hiking/biking trail
  beginning
• at Point State Park and extending to Cumberland,
  MD

• Transportation Enhancement Project of 5-mile
  section in Washington County
• Part of a 29 mile-rails to trails project from
  Collier Township, PA to Colliers, WV
• Partnership with Washington County
• PennDOT involved in funding and oversight
• Completed in June 2007
• Construction cost 725,000 (approx.)

• Part of 5.2 mile long trail through Jeffereson,
  Rices Landing and Cumberland Townships
• Greene Trail Phase 1b project covers 1.7 miles
  from Rices Landing to Crucible
• Construction began in August 2006 and completed
  in December 2006
• Total construction cost of 475,000, funded
  through transportation enhancement grants
