Buying a used Car From a dealership can be a very
painful process. After all when you are at a
dealer every saleman is actually there to get
you. Big mistake that many people do is walking
in a dealer and try to find the right car.
Just like many things in life, if you want to do
it right, you got to plan for it. Here is Tips to
get yourself a new used car
3
Budget It all starts with your budget, set down
and make a decision what would be the maximum
budget you willing to spend on your car. Of
course the higher your budget, the more options
you have, but you also shouldnt be breaking your
bank account.
4
Select A Car So, you made an initial budget,
and now is the hard time, you need to pick a car
model that work best for you, you might be
looking for heavy duty car or cost effective
car, etc. You need to decide what car would work
for you the best. You can spend sometime online
looking into cars and their capabilities until
you land one that works for you. If you buying
relatively new car, Youtube would be a good place
to start. I would highly recommend looking into
the KBB reviews to help you decide what car would
work best for you.
5
Find it Online Once you have a budget on mind
and specific car, hunting for car online cant
get any easier. All cars for sale are instantly
posted online. Dealers tend to have lower prices
online ( because their rates goes into comparison
sites, and if the price is not competitive, you
will not bother buying from them or even come to
check it in the lot. There are so many places
both dealer and individuals post their car at
from craigslist, cars.com, autotrader, Carfax,
Offerup, the list goes on and on. most of the
sites were pretty much has almost the same
inventory ( some may have more recent information
based on their feed.
6
Get to know in Car Online First Information
is power, you need to know everything that you
can find about a car before you get to a dealer
from history, all the way to how long the car
this car has been in the inventory, did the car
price drop, etc. Thanks god all of this are
available today with a push of a button. Here is
a list of sites that will help you in your search
  • CarFax.com Of course to place better to get
started than the old car history site, most
dealers offer free CarFax Online, you will be
able to view the car you interested in online and
if it had any major issues, damages, as well as
    how many previous owners.

7
Dealer Reviews Rating It doesnt matter how
good the car is or how good the deal is, it all
come down to how bad the dealer is. If the dealer
like to play dirty tricks he going to make the
shopping experience terrible. Looking up Dealer
reviews on Google reviews, Car gurus and other
sites. It is a really shame that many car dealers
fake reviews online. So, just because a car
dealer has 4 out of 5 doesnt mean he is good (
he might be terrible ). Spend sometime reading
the bad reviews and how the dealer responses to
them. Also read few of the positive reviews to
figure out if they are actually legitimate. Are
they providing good reason for the good review or
just giving 5 and say the dealer was awesome.
Finding out fake review is pretty easy and it is
sad that many people dont bother reading the
reviews.
8
Email the dealer This step is very crucial, you
know enough information about the car you looking
for as well as the dealer. You want to keep this
as it is as long as possible through the
negotiation. Contact using emails only. Send a
brief message to the dealer, mention that you
came cross the car online through your search and
you would like to know what is the last and best
price for the car. Dont forget to mention the
existing price online. Most dealers will not give
you a straight answers. If a dealer told you the
online price is the last price, drop him and hist
car. He will be a terrible dealer to work with.
Smart dealers will try to avoid to give you
straight numbers so they dont through you away
of the game. They may email you back asking you
for brief call, or come in for test drive. Dont
move to face to face conversation or calls until
you get into a range you comfortable with. The
dealer trying to get a better read of the person
in front of them. Dont let them take power over
the situation. Simply email back and be firmed
that you will not come to the dealer for test
drive unless you comfortable with the price and
call phone is not going to be much of help. When
dealer feel he loosing the game at his end, he
will probably ask you to name your price. You may
name a number that work for you, make sure to
check how the price of the car dropped in the
past, this would be so helpful.
9
Test Drive it Now that you feel comfortable with
the car range, you havent yet agreed on
anything online but a test drive, come in to the
dealer lot and check the car in person (
preferably before you enter the show room. Just
find the car and look if it looks as described.
If not, you can simply walk away.If it seemed
good, get into the show room and talk to the
dealer, ask for the person you talked to online.
Take the car for a test drive and make your mind,
if you like it, get back into the show room and
get ready for the Negotiation.
10
The Negotiation The ugliest part of the
process. be prepared to fight for the numbers (
they may try to play you up and raise the price
), if they try to push for higher end, dont
hesitate to leave, make sure you bring the fact
to the dealer. This car has been on the lot for x
amount of days, or price dropped, or even
anything in the car history you didnt like, use
it against the car. It doesnt matter how much
you like it, think about any flaw of the car even
if minor. The more knowledgeable you are. The
less power the car deal has over the deal. The
dealer always like to play tricks most with the
manager ( Bad cop / Good cop ), there is no good
cops there.
11
Trade in your old Car Always start by looking at
your car value online at KBB and edmunds to see
what your car worth. Dont bring the trade in to
the table until the price of the car you going to
buy was agreed on. If they ask you how much do
you want for it, say you dont know and ask how
much it worth. Let them evaluate it and decide if
it worth it. Of course selling in in person will
bring higher value, but it come with a lot of
issues, time, and fees. Dont take the dealer
first number, always argue your car value until
it reach to something work for you ( it is
negotiable, he is taking a car that will make him
few thousand dollars ). If the price was right,
make sure he subtract the value of the car from
the new car price ( so you pay fees and taxes
only on the new price ( New Car price Old Car
Price ) The Final price, you will be shocked,
some dealers may actually try to use the old car
price into other pieces of the sale Not into the
actual price of the car.
12
Financing I personally hate to finance, but you
may end up having to finance the car. If so, I
would highly recommend to get a loan from a Bank.
Financing through a deal is going to cost you
more no matter how good your credit score is.
Yet, if you decided to go through the dealer,
make sure you know what your credit score is in
advance to push for a lower rate.
13
Extras The car deal will try to sell you bunch
of services, most of them cost them nothing and
you will be shocked with the rate. Even something
as fancy as the warranty, may not be worth it (
depend on the car of course ), I wouldnt bother
with any of them. Of course looking into the car
, history, quality, and the long of the basic
warranty, would be a great help to decide if you
should bother buying it.
14
Final Thought Buying a used car might be a long
and intensive process, but one thing you must
keep in mind, you can walk away of a deal at any
moment and you should never feel obligated to
buy. Dealers by their nature try to guilt
customers into buying. There is nothing to be
guilty about.
