Extension of Single Touch Payroll
  1. Legislation before parliament extends STP to all
    employers
  2. Employers with under 20 staff will be required to
    report via STP
  3. ATO will not force employers to purchase software
  4. ATO asked developers for low cost solutions
  5. Micro employers (1 to 4) will have options (e.g.
    allowing agents to report quarterly)
  6. Exemptions may be available from ATO

Start Reporting through STP
  1. STP reports employees tax and super to ATO on or
    before each pay day
  2. Send via STP-enabled payroll software
  3. Employees view year-to-date information via MyGov
  4. Employers report super liability and super funds
    will report payment of liability
  5. STP replaces payment summaries and PSAR

GovReports STP Solutions
To lodge ATO reports including STP - ATO
nomination is required. AUSkey is not
required.   ATO nomination can be done through
either ATO access manager or via
telephone.      If Tax or BAS intermediary is
lodging behalf of their client then clients
authority is required for their audit purposes.

  • Authorities
  • The STP pay event is an approved form submitted
    to the Commissioner of Taxation, and requires the
    following each time it is lodged
  • a declaration that the information contained in
    the approved form (the STP pay event or update
    event) is true and correct
  • the declarer is authorised to lodge the approved
    form.

  • Authorities
  • If a registered agent reports through STP for an
    employer, they can obtain written authorisation
    to make this declaration through an annual
    agreement.
  • Subject to eligibility criteria. Employer must
    not
  • Have any overdue activity statement lodgements
  • Have any outstanding debts, unless covered by a
    payment arrangement
  • Currently be or have been the subject of ATO
    compliance activity for PAYG withholding within
    last 2 years
  • Directors been subject to a Director Penalty
    Notice
  • An authority must be reviewed and signed by an
    employer and their registered agent every
    12 months or any time there has been a
    significant change in the industrial relations,
    taxation or payroll process.
