Title: A Few Facts About Personal Drone Use
1A Few Facts About Personal Drone Use
2- Drones could soon be appearing on the birthday
and seasonal gift wish lists of kids and adults
all over the US, but before you buy one for
yourself or as a gift, here are a few simple
facts you should be aware of - Just how high and how far do drones fly, and what
restrictions do you need to be aware of? - FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) rulings
advise that those using drones or any kind of
unmanned model aircraft are not permitted to
fly their craft any higher than 400 feet above
ground level, and that they must be kept within
the sight of the operator. Its important to be
aware that you should not fly your craft within 5
miles of an airport, unless you have informed the
appropriate airport authorities and gained their
permission.
3- The distance that you can cover with your drone,
will be dependent upon how long you can keep it
within your sight. If you can no longer see your
drone, then the chance of it crashing, or causing
a problem to others, is greatly increased. - How well you can operate your drone at a greater
distance, is largely dependent on how good your
controller and antenna are.
4- Is there anywhere that I cant fly my drone?
- Its wise to acknowledge that other members of
the public may not appreciate you flying a drone
close to their properties, so the less populated
the area in which you are flying is, so much the
better. There are all kinds of privacy issues
raised by drones being operated in residential
areas, business districts and correctional
facilities to name but a few, not to mention the
dangers surrounding flying close to roads, power
stations and airports, so its best to stick to
rural areas wherever possible. Your drone may not
cause an accident directly, but they tend to be
highly distracting and could easily cause harm to
individuals indirectly.
5- Common sense should probably prevail here, and if
you think that the area youre flying a drone in
may present dangers, privacy concerns or bring
unwanted attention to local law enforcement, then
simply move elsewhere. - Any other issues to be aware of?
- This may also seem like common sense, but if
weather conditions are such that your drone may
be blown off course, then its best to fly it
when the wind has died down. Due to their
structure, drones are incredibly light and will
be difficult to control if wind is blowing. Of
course completely clear and calm days are often
few and far between, and it doesnt mean that you
shouldnt fly your drone when its a little
breezy, but it wont be as easy or as fun as when
conditions are calm.
6- Night time flying is also not safe and not
recommended you may well be to keep track of
your drone as a result of its lights, but you
will not be able to see exactly where it is
flying.
