Title: The Problem with a DivineRight Monarchy Absolutism

1
The Problem with a Divine-Right Monarchy
(Absolutism)
  • By the mid-1600s, the main force jeopardizing
the European balance was the entire secular
ambition of Bourbon France on the continent of
Europe and abroad. For seventy-two years, France
was under a single king, Louis XIV (1643-1714).
  • Louis XIV was the personification of royal pride,
elegance and luxury. He moved the monarchy from
the turbulent scene that was Paris to Versailles.
    There, Louis demanded unquestionable obedience
from his subjects, established elaborate court
rituals and further limited the power of the
    nobles.
