Peace Keeping Mission

• In 1948 England devised a plan to separate
  Palestine into two states one Arab state,
  Palestine and one Jewish state, Israel. The Arabs
  didnt like this idea and started conflict and
  war with Israel. On May 29, 1948 the Security
  Council said these hostilities must be stopped.
  They needed to sign a peace treaty and thought
  they would need a military observer.

Peace Keeping Mission

• In June the UNTSO military observer arrived and
  is dealing with 5 main states Jordan, Israel,
  Egypt, Lebanon, and the Syrian Arab Republic.
  After the wars of 1956, 1967 and 1973, the
  observers job changed somewhat they now serve as
  go-betweens for each state so communication was
  happening and little conflicts wouldnt turn into
  major outbreaks of war. The UNTSO has helped very
  much with this conflict by being there right
  after the Security Council asked for an observer.
  The UNTSO has helped in other peace keeping
  missions and have done a good job in many of them.
