European Northern Observatory

• 1979 Starting point of the internationalisation
  of the IAC observatories
• Over the last 30 years more than sixty research
  institutions from 20 countries have installed
  their telescopes and instruments here.
• The construction and operation of these
  telescopes and instruments are a driving force
  for sustainable regional socio-economic
  development

Future continue building the bridge to European
convergence

• Advanced socio-economic analysis of the impact of
  the construction and operation of next-generation
  Extremely Large Telescopes, funded by the Spanish
  Ministry of Education and Science.
• Future candidates for this Observatory include
• 40m E-ELT (European Extremely Large Telescope)
• 2.5m EST (European Solar Telescope)
