TIMSS (Third International Mathematics and
Science Studies) is a collaborative research
project sponsored by the International
Association for the Evaluation of Educational
Achievement (IEA). In 1994-95, achievement tes
ts in mathematics and science were administered
to carefully selected samples of students in
classrooms around the world.

adjacent grades that contained the largest
proportion of 9-year-olds students grades 3 and
4 in many countries Population 2 Students enroll

  • The tests were developed through an international
    consensus
  • Efforts were made to ensure that the tests
    represented the curricula.

    NRCs of all the participating countries.
