3
Welcome!
  • La Crosse was first explored in 1680 by the
French. The area received its name when a group
of Native Americans were seen playing a game that
    looked like La Crosse.
  • La Crosse was a major trading post, where both
water and land contributed to its success. Both
the lumber industry and the river commerce
contributed to the growth of the city, however in
the late 1800s both businesses began to decline.
The industry that came to La Crosses rescue was
the brewing business. Five breweries moved to
the area and helped make La Crosse the city it is
    today.
  • While the industries helped La Crosse become a
popular spot, what also brought people to this
area was the natural landscapes and wildlife.
  • Thats why this area is affectionately known as
  • Gods Country

Dont forget the kids!
  • Moving is a scary thing, especially for children.
You should let your kids know about the move as
soon as possible. Let them know that everything
will be okay and let them get comfortable with
the situation before you start making big
decisions. And, when the time comes, let them
help with the decision making process from
beginning to end. By getting them involved it
wont seem like such a scary thing. Try this
link to help you get the kids involved.
  • Children react differently to moving based on
their age all of them have some sort of fear
about moving whether they are four or eighteen.
Read this link to see how you can help your
    children deal with the move.
  • Once you are in your new town, make sure to get
the children out and about not just unpacking
the house this will help them adjust faster.
The La Crosse area has a lot of things to offer
the sooner children realize this the better they
will feel about the move. Most children are
worried about sitting at home having nothing to
do or no friends. Make sure this doesnt happen
by getting them involved around town.

26
Moving with Children?

to consider are schooling and day care. It may
help them adjust easier if they are allowed to
