  • 1. ADMISSION TO CLASSIFIED GRADUATE STANDING
  • Attained on admission to program for qualified
    students.
  • Conditionally classified students fulfill
    conditions and then file an Application for
    Classification with Graduate Studies.

  • 2. ADVANCEMENT TO CANDIDACY
  • A You must have
  • 1. Classified graduate standing.
  • 2. Fulfilled the writing proficiency requirement.
    If you do not have an exemption, complete this by
    the end of your 1st semester of enrollment.
  • 3. Completed 9 units of course work no grade of
    less than C.
  • 4. A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
  • B Then you must
  • 5. File an Application for Advancement to
    Candidacy with Graduate Studies
  • - Degree plan is outlined and shows all core
    classes and electives, a minimum of 18 units of
    200-level seminar courses and a maximum of 6
    units of any combination of 295 and 299.
  • It takes 4-6 weeks for the Office of Graduate
    Studies to process the Advancement to Candidacy.
    Submit it to Graduate Studies by October 1 for
    Spring semester registration in the Culminating
    Experience (RPTA 500) and February 1 for Fall
    semester registration in RPTA 500.

  • 3. CHANGES TO THE DEGREE PLAN
  • If substitutions are made for courses listed on
  • the approved Advancement to Candidacy a
    Petition for Exception must be filed.

  • 4. ENROLL IN RPTA 500
  • Needs approval of Faculty Advisor and Graduate
    Coordinator and is done through RPTA
    Administrative Coordinator.
  • You cannot register for 500 unless you have filed
    an Advancement to Candidacy in the previous
    semester.
  • File the Advancement to Candidacy by October 1
    for Spring semester registration in the
    Culminating Experience (RPTA 500) and February 1
    for Fall semester registration in RPTA 500.)

  • 5. If the Culminating Experience is not completed
    in the semester of enrollment
  • Continuous Enrollment is required. Register for
    599 by submitting a Continuous Enrollment Form
    (and fees) to Graduate Studies (Advisor submits a
    Satisfactory Progress grade for 500).

  • 6. Continuous Enrollment is for a maximum of
  • three semesters beyond the semester of
    enrollment in 500. Satisfactory Progress grades
    continue to be recorded. If the Culminating
    Experience is incomplete after this time you must
    register for 500 again (and you will receive a No
    Credit grade for the original 500).

  • 7. All coursework must be completed within 7
  • years to avoid repeating courses.

  • 8. Application for Graduation
  • Submit an Application for Graduation to Graduate
    Studies (needs Faculty Advisor approval). Dates
    are posted on the Graduate Studies website at
    http//www.csus.edu/gradstudies/ .

  • 9. COMPLETE THE THESIS OR PROJECT
  • Committee Chair, Second Reader and
  • Graduate Coordinator sign off on thesis or
    project (guidelines covering university
    requirements are at http//www.csus.edu/gradstudi

  • 10. SUBMIT THESIS OR PROJECT
  • Attend a mandatory Thesis/Project Workshop
    through Graduate Studies (see dates on Graduate
    Studies website at http//www.csus.edu/gradstudies
    / ).
  • Submit your project or thesis in the required
    format together with Thesis/Project Receipt Form
    and paid Microfilming and Binding Receipt to
    Graduate Studies (see dates on Graduate Studies
    website at http//www.csus.edu/gradstudies/ ).

  • 11. Complete a Data Change Form if your
  • personal details or address have changed.

  • 12. POSTING OF DEGREE
  • The degree is posted to your student transcript
    8-10 weeks after the end of semester. Your
    Diploma is mailed 4-6 months after graduation.
