Title: Lesson From The Conversion of the Eunuch

1
Lesson From The Conversionof the Eunuch
  • Acts 826-39

2
Work of the Holy Spirit
  • Many confused about H.S. Work in salvation.
  • Expect direct operation of H.S. on sinner.
  • Some better felt than told experience.
  • Sinners prayer is asking God for some
confirmation of salvation from the Spirit.
  • This confusion did not come from God (1 Cor.
    1433).
  • Philip reached eunuch with guidance of H.S. (v.
    29).
  • Then, he began at the same Scripture (v. 35).
  • Spirit works through the Word of God which He
revealed to the apostles (Eph. 617).
  • Not one conversion in book of Acts where Spirit
    worked directly on the sinner.
  • The Word was taught in every example!

God ? Spirit ? Apostles ?
  • John 1426 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom
the Father will send in My name, He will teach
you all things, and bring to your remembrance all
things that I said to you.
  • John 167-8 12-13 Nevertheless I tell you the
truth. It is to your advantage that I go away
for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come
to you but if I depart, I will send Him to you.
And when He has come, He will convict the world
of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment.I
still have many things to say to you, but you
cannot bear them now. However, when He, the
Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into
    all truth

Work of the Holy Spirit in Conversion
Now we have received, not the spirit of the
world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we
might know the things that have been freely given
to us by God. These things we also speak, not in
words which man's wisdom teaches but which the
Holy Spirit teaches (1 Cor. 212-13).

God ? Spirit ? Apostles ?
  • Gal. 111-12 But I make known to you, brethren,
that the gospel which was preached by me is not
according to man. For I neither received it from
man, nor was I taught it, but it came through the
    revelation of Jesus Christ.
  • Eph 33-5 how that by revelation He made known
to me the mystery (as I have briefly written
already, by which, when you read, you may
understand my knowledge in the mystery of
Christ), which in other ages was not made known
to the sons of men, as it has now been revealed
by the Spirit to His holy apostles and prophets.

6
Work of the Holy Spirit ? Reveal Truth
  • Acts 24-37 And they were all filled with the
Holy Spirit and began to speak with other
tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Now
when they heard this, they were cut to the heart,
and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles,
"Men and brethren, what shall we do?"
  • Acts 44 However, many of those who heard the
    word believed
  • Acts 172-4 Then Paul, as his custom was, went
in to them, and for three Sabbaths reasoned with
them from the Scriptures, explaining and
demonstrating that the Christ had to suffer and
rise again from the dead, and saying, "This Jesus
whom I preach to you is the Christ. And some of
them were persuaded and a great multitude of the
devout Greeks, and not a few of the leading
    women
  • Acts 188 And many of the Corinthians, hearing,
    believed and were baptized.

7
Work of the Holy Spirit ? Confirm Truth
  • Mark 1617 And these signs will follow those
who believe In My name they will cast out
demons they will speak with new tongues
  • 18 they will take up serpents and if they
drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt
them they will lay hands on the sick, and they
    will recover.
  • 19 So then, after the Lord had spoken to them,
He was received up into heaven, and sat down at
    the right hand of God.
  • 20 And they went out and preached everywhere,
the Lord working with them and confirming the
    word through the accompanying signs.

8
Work of the Holy Spirit ? Confirm Truth
  • Heb. 21 Therefore we must give the more earnest
heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift
    away.
  • 2 For if the word spoken through angels proved
    steadfast, and every transgression and
    disobedience received a just reward,
  • 3 how shall we escape if we neglect so great a
salvation, which at the first began to be spoken
by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who
    heard Him,
  • 4 God also bearing witness both with signs and
wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the
Holy Spirit, according to His own will?

9
Work of the Holy Spirit ? Confirm Truth
  • Acts 85 Then Philip went down to the city of
Samaria and preached Christ to them.
  • 6 And the multitudes with one accord heeded the
things spoken by Philip, hearing and seeing the
    miracles which he did.
  • 7 For unclean spirits, crying with a loud
voice, came out of many who were possessed and
many who were paralyzed and lame were healed.
  • 13 Then Simon himself also believed and when he
was baptized he continued with Philip, and was
amazed, seeing the miracles and signs which were
    done.

10
Work of Preachers
  • Philip, the preacher, beginning at this
Scripture, preached Jesus to him (v. 35).
  • Work of preacher Preach the Word (2 Tim. 42).
  • Not political speech Not entertaining speech
  • THE WORD of GOD! This includes
  • Reproof, Rebuke, Exhortation, Warning (2 Tim.
    42-5)
  • Persuading (2 Cor. 511 Acts 240)
  • Comforting (1 Thess. 418)
  • Preached to only one man.
  • Started where the student was.

11
Preaching Jesus Includes Preaching About Baptism
  • Acts 835-36
  • Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning at
this Scripture, preached Jesus to him. Now as
they went down the road, they came to some water.
And the eunuch said, See, here is water. What
    hinders me from being baptized?
  • Acts 812
  • But when they believed Philip as he preached the
things concerning the kingdom of God and the name
of Jesus Christ, both men and women were
    baptized.
  • Most leave out baptism.
  • Peters sermon on Pentecost included baptism and
the reason for it (Acts 238).
  • Ananias told Saul why he needed to be baptized
    (Acts 2216).
  • Baptism is a part of Gods plan for saving lost
    souls.

12
The Necessity of Faith
  • Philips answer to eunuchs question
  • Acts 837 Then Philip said, If you believe with
    all your heart, you may.
  • Faith is essential to being saved (Heb. 116 Jn.
    824 Mk. 1616).
  • What does this say about infant baptism?
  • Baby cant confess faith.
  • Baby cant ask or answer question.
  • Forced baptism is of no avail.

13
What One Confesses
  • Some confess their sins.
  • Others give their testimony about what God has
    done for them.
  • Eunuch confessed I believe that Jesus Christ is
the Son of God. (Acts 837).
  • Rom. 1010 For with the heart one believes unto
righteousness, and with the mouth confession is
    made unto salvation.
  • Matt. 1032 Therefore whoever confesses Me
before men, him I will also confess before My
    Father who is in heaven.
  • It is a public confession.

14

15
The Joy of Being A Christian

water, the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away,
so that the eunuch saw him no more and he went
    on his way rejoicing.

    Lord--salvation (Mk. 1616).
