I. Why Coalition? Dirr Biabir Anbessa Yassir
  • The CSOs/NGOs/POs Coalition against Malaria in
    Ethiopia will be developed with strengthened
    links for coordinated advocacy and resource
    mobilization
  • Increased media coverage through new media and
    existing campaigns
  • Increased policy debates and advocacy on malaria

  • Unified CSOs/NGOs/POs action at country level
    using effective technical approaches
  • Activists for malaria enabled and supported
  • Existing and new activities for malaria enabled
    and supported

II. Main Achievements in 2007/08
  • CAME Secretariat elected as communities living
    with HIV and TB and affected by Malaria
    Delegation to the Global Fund Board
  • New M4M website launched and branded as CAME
    programme
  • East African Roll-Back-Malaria Network (EARN)
    Workshop in Arusha, Tanzania
  • Technical Support for GF R7 and RCC
  • Facilitated the realization of RBM Needs
    Assessment and Resources Mapping mission which
    was recently undertaken

  • 2008 African Malaria Day celebration was
    facilitated
  • Support to Coalition of Media Against Malaria in
    Ethiopia (CMAME)
  • Designation of CMAME Steering Committee
  • Gambella situational assessment (financial and
    technical)
  • Project proposal developed and submitted to
    MACEPA/FMOH and awaiting the result
  • The first of its kind CAMEs two editions of the
    Net Newsletter produced and distributed to all
    stakeholders
  • Updating of the database of CAME members is under
    preparation
  • Assessment of CMAME members
  • Facilitated the occurrence of the 3rd CMAME
    capacity building workshop

  • Advocacy Strategic Planning undertaken by the
    selected CAME members and the validation workshop
    will take place sooner
  • Preparation is underway to run TOT on malaria
    management for private medical practitioners
  • IEC/BCC Project implementation underway using
    innovative approach
  • Visitors from European Alliance Against
    Malaria/UK Journalists visit facilitation
  • Representations

  • Participated in the 13th RBM Partnership Board
    Meeting in Addis Ababa November 28-30, 2007
  • Provided support on the project proposal
    preparation on the Community Malaria Program to
    be submitted for PMI (USAID)
  • Update information dissemination to all CMAME and
    CAME members
  • Services provision in the Resource Center
  • Entertaining visitors

III. Challenges
  • Limitation of resources to satisfy the need of
    CAMEs Secretariat and members
  • Slowness in the engagement of Policy Advocacy due
    to the prevailing problem
  • Conflict of interest among members
  • Sustainability of interventions especially in
    terms of finance such as 20 million LLINs are
    already distributed all over the country and
    replacement should be started in mid 2008, need
    of ACT drugs, IRS operational and chemical cost,
    etc.
  • Rejection of proposals/requests by GFATM

IV. Future Plan
  • Capacity building of CSOs (CAME and CMAME
    members)
  • Resources mobilization to satisfy the need of
    members
  • Scale up advocacy policy activities
  • Implement the 2008 operation plan
  • Decentralize the responsibility with all supports
