Schools Fantasy LeagueTeacher presentation
2
What is Schools Fantasy League (SFL)?
  • Its an online educational resource based on the
    concept of fantasy football
  • The idea was conceived in 1999 after requests
from teachers who identified the educational
potential from this type of activity
  • It was originally launched as part of the DfES
    Maths Year 2000

3
What is SFL?
  • Its a learning tool that provides links to a
wide range of curriculum areas including ICT,
    maths, English, business enterprise and
    citizenship
  • Over 1,400 schools and 47,000 pupils, teachers
and parents took part in the 2010/11season

4
Where can SFL be used?
  • In time-tabled lessons
  • As an extra-curricular activity
  • At home

5
Why schools choose SFL
  • SFL is a 'live' programme and not a simulation
  • It provides endless opportunities to
contextualise learning e.g. SFL is data rich,
it provides opportunities for pupils to research,
    analyse and make decisions
  • Pupils communicate with company personnel, who
    will handle their enquiries

6
Why schools choose SFL
  • Pupils develop skills whilst having fun
  • It makes lessons more interesting - and can
    'switch on' disinterested students
  • It breaks down pupil/teacher barriers - pupils
and teachers can all get involved
  • No knowledge of football is needed to take part

7
Why schools choose SFL
  • It provides excellent opportunities to regularly
    celebrate pupil achievement
  • Any pupil of any age can take part
  • It can provide opportunities for links with other
schools - feeder schools, extended school
    partnerships and international partners
