    thereby to increase the chance that nations will
    learn at last to live in peace and friendship."

  • August 1, 1946 Fulbright Act signed into law by
    President Harry S. Truman
  • More than 265,000 participated in the program
    101,000 from the U.S., 164,000 from other
    countries
  • More than 150 countries have participated in the
    program

  • Funded by the U.S. Congress to the Department of
    State
  • Sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and
    Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State
  • Abroad administered by commissions, or Public

TRADITIONAL FULBRIGHT PROGRAM

  • Preference candidates with little or no previous
    experience in the United States

HUBERT H. HUMPHREY FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM
  • Founded in 1978
  • Named for the late Senator and Vice-President,
    Hubert H. Humphrey of Minnesota (1911-1978)
  • A year of combined academic and professional work
    (non-degree) at an American university
  • Fellows selected based on potential for
    leadership, and commitment to public service
  • Who can apply civil servants at state and local
    levels, judiciary, employees of non-governmental
    organizations, financial organizations, banks,
    media professionals

  • Fellowship fields communications, journalism,
    natural resources/environment, public
    administration, economic development,

  • Administered by the Institute for the Development

FULBRIGHT SENIOR SPECIALIST PROGRAM
  • U.S. faculty to Croatian academic institutions
  • Length 2-6 weeks
  • Annual quota 5 specialists
  • Activities lecturing, curriculum and faculty and
    material development, leading seminars or
    workshops, conference participation
  • Funding U.S. Government covers international air
    fare and daily honorarium host institutions
    (through Croatian Ministry of Science) housing,
    meals, local transportation
