level in Statistics, and can serve to qualify

in Actuarial Science
Description of the Programme The programme is
aimed at graduates from quantitative disciplines
who wish to pursue a career as an actuary. High
performance in the examinations gives an
exemption from many of the Core Technical
professional examinations of the Faculty
Institute of Actuaries in the UK
(www.actuaries.org.uk). It is a one-year
full-time or a two-year part-time programme.
Students must take at least 5 subjects out of 8
(each subject matching a professional

training is high, but not equivalent to the level
of the BSc Honours degree in Mathematics or
Mathematical Sciences. It is a one-year
programme designed to bring students to the BSc
Honours level in Mathematics, and can serve to
qualify students to enter the MSc in Mathematics
or Mathematical Sciences. Content Core modules

  • Description of the Programme
  • This is a full-time one-year degree by
    examination and minor thesis. The purpose of the
    programme is to give to students who have an
    excellent primary degree in a mathematical
    discipline the necessary knowledge and competence
    to study and understand current research
    literature in at least one are of the
    mathematical sciences.
  • Structure of the Programme
  • The programme consists of 90 credits of
    work 60 credits of taught modules and 30 credits
    assigned to the writing of a thesis and to active
    participation in a research seminar.
  • The student must take 60 credits of taught
    modules from the graduate modules in Actuarial
    Science, Applied Mathematics, Mathematics,
    Statistics and Theoretical Physics - subject to
    the approval of the programme director.

in Mathematical Science (Mathematical Physics)
Description of the Programme The programme is
aimed at graduates whose training is not
sufficient for them to proceed to the MSc in
Mathematical Physics. It is a one-year programme
designed to bring students to the BSc Honours
level in Mathematics, and can serve to qualify
students to enter the MSc in Mathematical Physics
or Mathematical Sciences. Students normally take
half the third year courses and half the fourth
year courses in Mathematical Physics. This
material is equivalent to that covered by a Joint
Honours student taking Mathematical Physics.
