Gods Grace Lightning

Our GivingThunder
5
As thunder follows lightning,
giving follows grace.
The more Gods grace grips you, the more you
give. The more you give, the more Gods grace
grips you.

  • Study of lottery winners and
  • others experiencing dramatic events
  • Six months after winning the lottery,
winners were no happier than people six months
after they were paralyzed in a car crash.
  • Out of the most severe trial, their
overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled
    up in rich generosity.

  • The sleep of a laborer is sweet, whether he
eats little or much, but the abundance of a rich
    man permits him no sleep.
  • The more you have, the more you have to worry
    about.
  • Want to worry less? Give more.

You can excel in givingdo it bigger and better
than in the past. You can give
  • More
  • More often
  • More strategically

15
  • What have you been doing to excel in your giving?
What steps have you been taking to raise the bar?
  • Have you been providing a model of generous
giving by what you do with your time and money?
How are you helping your kingdom teammates excel
at giving? Do you have giving accountability?

Rom. 12 gifts of prophecy, serving, teaching,
encouragement, giving, leadership, mercy.

10 of their income. Average 2.6

He who gathered much did not have too much and he
who gathered little did not have too little.
2 Corinthians 815
Two problems people having too much OR too
little.
Giving solves both problems!
26
20 We want to avoid any criticism of the way
we administer this liberal gift. 21 For we are
taking pains to do what is right, not only in the
eyes of the Lord but also in the eyes of men.

  • 2 Corinthians 9
  • 2 For I know your eagerness to help, and I
have been boasting about it to the Macedonians,
telling them that since last year you in Achaia
were ready to give and your enthusiasm has
stirred most of them to action.

from inside and outside.

  • Beware of practicing your righteousness before
other people in order to be seen by them
    Matthew 61
  • Let your light shine before men, that they may
see your good deeds and praise your Father not
    you in heaven. Matthew
    514-18
  • Theres a time for giving stories not to be
told, and a time to be told (but only with care
    and humility).

  • Jesus said, Give, and it will be given to
you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken
together and running over, will be poured into
your lap, for with the measure you use, it will
    be measured to you.
    Luke 638
  • The question isnt whether God often prospers
    givers, but why.

31
  • The most generous Christians of my
acquaintance have been always the most happy, and
almost invariably the most prosperous Men trust
good stewards with larger and larger sums, and so
it frequently is with the Lord He gives by
cartloads to those who give by bushels. Where
wealth is not bestowed the Lord makes the little
    much by giving contentment.

  • 7 Each man should give what he has decided in
his heart to give, not reluctantly or under
compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

34
  • God loves a cheerful giver.
  • God loves a cheerful giver.
  • The only way to learn to become a cheerful
giver is to become a giver.
  • When youre addicted to grace, nobody could pay
you enough to stop giving. (Giving is a great
    cure for depression.)

35
  • 8 And God is able to make all grace abound to
you, so that in all things at all times, having
all that you need, you will abound in every good
work. 9 As it is written He has scattered
abroad his gifts to the poor his righteousness
    endures forever.

36
  • True Grace giving is overflowing,
    seed-scattering, sacrificial and joyful giving
that flows from the grace-transformed heart.
  • False Grace giving is trying to escape Gods
requirements of Old Testament believers by
lowering the bar of giving, making grace more
impotent than law. (2.6 is not grace giving.)

37
  • 10 Now he who supplies seed to the sower and
bread for food will also supply and increase your
store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of
    your righteousness.

10 Now he who supplies seed to the sower and
bread for food will also supply and increase your

your righteousness.
10 Now he who supplies seed to the sower and

10 Now he who supplies seed to the sower and
bread for food will also supply and increase your
store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of
your righteousness. God gives us bread to
meet our needs, and seed to plant (not eat) where
it will bear eternal fruit.
38
  • Give generously to the poor and do so
without a grudging heart then because of this
the Lord your God will bless you in all your work
and in everything you put your hand to.I command
you to be openhanded toward your brothers and
toward the poor and needy in your land.
  • Deuteronomy 1510-11

39
  • He who is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and
he will reward him for what he has done. Prov.
    1917
  • A generous man will himself be blessed, for he
shares his food with the poor. Proverbs
    229
  • He who gives to the poor will lack nothing, but
he who closes his eyes to them receives many
    curses. Proverbs 2827

40
  • God said of King Josiah
  • He defended the cause of the poor and needy, and
so all went well. Is that not what it means to
    know me?
  • Jeremiah 2216

God prospers me not to raise my standard of
living, but to raise my standard of giving. When
God provides beyond what we need, why should the
default be keeping? Why shouldnt it be
giving? Why not set a finish line, beyond which
you give it all back to God?
