-We use relative pronouns to join pairs of
sentences and make it one sentence.
-Ways of joining two sentences using relative
pronouns
1- Decide the subject and object in the second
sentence.
2- Remove the subject or the object form the
second sentence.
3- Remove the duplicated words from the second
sentence .

Who Which Where
Whom Whose
Who
It is used for persons. In using who we replace
the repeated subject in the second sentence with
who.
Example a. An educator is a person b. An
educator educates
An educator is a person who educates.

Which
It is used for things. In using which we replace
the subject or the object in the second sentence
with which.
Example a. A projector is a machine. b.
we use projector to show the transparency.
A projector is a machine which is used to show
the transparency.

whom
It is used for persons. In using whom we replace
the object (him,her, you, it,them) in the second
sentence with whom.
Example a. MR. Watson sells
ice-cream. b. We met him at the airport.
Mr. Watson whom we met at the airport sells
ice-cream.

It is use to replace the possessive adjective
(his, her, your, my, its, their).
Example a. The scientist has been
given a prize. b. The scientists work is a
bout child development.
The scientist whose work is about child
development has been given a prize.

It is used for replacing the place.
Example a. A swimming pool is a beautiful
place. b. We can swim and play water games in
a swimming pool.
A swimming pool is a place where we can swim and
play water games.
