GTI PROGRAM
  • Provides release time from teaching for one
    faculty
  • member at a TCBS campus, one semester/year.
  • GTI emulates the role of a science faculty
    member.
  • Faculty member, in turn, provides supervision,
  • mentorship, and support to GTI.
  • Emulates Preparing Future Faculty (PFF) program
  • (currently being established on both UND and
  • NDSU campuses).

  • Provide 20 hours total service per week.
  • Do so with professionalism maintaining
    rapport,
  • but at an appropriate distance, with ones
    students.
  • Maintain daily contact with your mentor.
  • Maintain e-mail contact with Donald Schwert . .

  • questions, concerns, etc.

  • Write a detailed, daily journal of your
    experiences
  • (good and bad) e-mailed each following
    weekend
  • to Schwert and to your mentor.
  • What went well?
  • What went poorly . . . and what steps did/will
    you

  • Filtering okay (i.e. journal submissions to your
  • mentor and to Schwert need not be identical).

  • Take on recruitment role for graduate studies.
  • Talk about graduate school with your students.
  • When appropriate, discuss biomedical and
  • biomedical research implications of your
    lesson
  • materials.
  • Brag up opportunities that exist at UND and
    NDSU.

  • Communicate with one another.
  • Have a curiosity about the campus that you are
  • serving the student body, departmental
  • operations, the campus community, etc.
  • Participate (if allowed) in your
    departmental/unit
  • meetings and activities.
  • Make your students enthusiastic for your subject
  • matter.

  • representative course materials, along with a
