What is the difference between a plan and a
strategic management plan?
  • A Plan is what we want to do.
  • An SMP sets out not only what we want to do but
    how were going to do it.

But are they strategic management plans? We
would now like to share with you the steps used
in developing a strategic management plan.

Step 1- Initiate and agree on a Strategic
Planning Process
  • You have to identify the benefits for having a
  • strategic management plan for your
    life/organization
  • and the key people to be involved in the drawing
    up
  • of the SMP.

Step 2- The Identification of the Organizational
Goals
  • You must identify what goals you want to achieve
    in your strategic management plan.
  • to be a goal it must be

S pecific, M easurable A chievable R ealistic T
ime bound

Step 3- Develope a mission statement
  • The mission statement sets out how you will
    achieve your goals.

Step 4- You must do a SWOT exercise
  • The SWOT exercise helps you to look at your
  • Strengths
  • Weaknesses
  • Opportunities
  • Threats

Step 5- the establishment of a vision statement
  • The Vision statement will clearly say where it
    is you want to be having successfully carried out
    your strategic management plan

management plan
