3
INTRODUCTION
  • The electrosurgery machine produces high
    radiofrequency energy sufficient to induce
cutting and/or coagulation in body tissues by an
    electrode during (electro) surgery
  • Although RF Electrosurgery is reportedly used in
over 70 of all medical procedures performed each
year, it remains one of the least understood
    devices in the operating room

4
DESCRIPTION
  • This is multipurpose Electrosurgical unit,
ideally suitable for cutting and coagulation with
a high degree of Precision. It is a small,
compact light weight unit and easy to handle. Our
patient safety, the patient is protect by a
sentry circuit that cuts off out put
automatically also the patient output circuit is
    isolated from the power circuit.

DEVICE Description
  • An electrosurgical unit for producing a modulated
oscillating signal for coagulation procedures and
an unmodulated oscillating signal for cutting
procedures. The unit includes a four arm bridge
rectifier interconnected directly to the line
voltage. A first pair of opposing diagonal
terminals on the rectifier is connected directly
    to the line voltage.

7
  • A cutting signal is obtained from the other pair
of diagonal terminals, and a coagulation signal
is obtained across one arm of the bridge
rectifier. An oscillator tank coil provides the
necessary RF isolation output. A switch
    selectively interconnects either the coagulation
signal output from the bridge rectifier, or the
cutting signal output from the bridge rectifier,
    to the oscillator.

8

  • The output is taken across the tank circuit from
the RF oscillator and applied to a patient
through a handpiece. Through the use of high
voltage transistors in the circuit, high
efficiency is obtained by eliminating the input
    transformer of the prior art

9
Maintenance
  • Most maintenance on the electrosurgery power unit
is generally performed by trained biomedical
    equipment technicians or biomedical engineers
unless nursing staffers are adequately trained.
The electrodes, however, must be cleansed and
sterilized by the staff immediately following
each surgery if they are not disposable.

Medical Application
  • ESUs are used for surgical cutting or to control
    bleeding by causing
  • coagulation (hemostasis) at the surgical site.
    They deliver high-frequency
  • electrical currents and voltages through an
    active electrode, causing desiccation,
  • vaporization, or charring of the target tissue.
  • ESUs are a useful tool in all aspects of the
    surgical arena from the most
  • basic wart removal, spider veins, or hair removal
in a doctors office to the

12
  • most intricate open heart, orthopedic, and
    transplant procedures.
  • An ESU, by definition, is a generator capable of
    producing a cutting and/or
  • coagulating clinical effect on tissue by the use
of alternating current at a high frequency
  • (RF - radio frequency, also known as radio
    surgery). Voltages and
  • currents may vary depending on the desired
    clinical effect.
