Jackie Robinson
  • Jack Robinsons full name was Jackie Roosevelt
    Robinson.
  • He was born on Jan. 31, 1919.
  • He lived with his mom and four other siblings.
    His dad had left.
  • In high school, he was awesome at basketball,
    baseball, football, tennis, and track.
  • He became a Brooklyn Dodger in 1947.
  • He got into the Hall of Fame in 1962.

His Impact on Us Today!
  • Jackie Robinson was an incredible baseball
    player. He was the man who helped integrate
    baseball. Had it not be for him African Americans
    may not be able to play in the Majors today. He
    is an inspiration to many people.

The Tuskegee Airmen

    Destroyed a battleship
  • First became official pilots in 1942
  • Trained in Tuskegee, Alabama
  • Awarded many medals including the Congressional
    Gold Medal

  • They were nicknamed the Red-tailed Angels.
  • They never lost a bomber.

The Tuskegee Airman
The Tuskegee Airman affected all of us because
they fought for our freedom and they paved the
way for many other African American Airmen in the
U.S. Armed Forces. They all were very brave and
very talented. Without them we would not have
many talented African American pilots.

Patricia Bath

  • Patricia Bath was the first African-American
    woman to receive a patent for an invention she
    created. .
  • Her invention was named the Lasorphaco Probe and
    this was used to improve the results of a
    cataract surgery.
  • Patricia Bath believed that everyone had the
    Right to Sight.
  • Bath of course went through many difficulties
    with race and gender but with those problems she
    stated, "Yes, I'm interested in equal
    opportunities, but my battles are in science."

today?
  • Patricia was an ophthalmologist who transformed
    eye surgery by using her laser device to make the
    procedure for cataracts more accurate and easier.

Frederick Douglass
  • Born into slavery on the Eastern Shore of
    Maryland in 1818.
  • One of the major Stationmasters on the
    Underground Railroad.
  • Was a large impact in the civil rights
    movement. Was referred to as The Father of the
    Civil Rights Movement.
  • Served as an advisor to various presidents.
  • Had a personal relationship with President
    Lincoln. This allowed him to persuade the
    President to make emancipation a cause of the
    Civil War.
  • Also served as some national service positions,
    including US Marshall for the District of
    Columbia and diplomatic positions in Haiti and
    the Dominican Republic.

  • Because of him, people realized that African
    Americans could serve in high positions in the
    government. He also brought many African
    Americans to freedom.

Marian Anderson
  • February 27 1897- April 8 1943
  • Was the oldest of three girls.
  • Attended South Philadelphia High School to focus
    on her singing.
  • She married Orpheus Fisher in July of 1943.
  • Marian sang on the steps of the Lincoln memorial
    for Easter Sunday in front of 75,000 people
    because in 1953 she was not allowed to sing in
    the U.S. constitution hall because of her color.

  • Marian Anderson has been said to be The voice
    that changed the nation. Ever since she sang on
    the steps of the Lincoln Memorial she showed
    people everywhere that no matter how many times
    you get shot down, because of your religion, or
    your color, you should still never give up.

  • Born in Dawson, Georgia on September 9, 1941.
  • He sang gospel music as a child. H was soon
    interested in RB and blues music.
  • He met his wife, Zelma Atwood, in 1959. They
    married in 1961.
  • He died in a plane crash on December 10, 1967.
  • He was inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of
    fame in 1989.
  • He was regarded as the single most influential
    male soul singer of the 1960s.

Why Is She Important?
  • Without Daisy Batess courage we could not have
    black Americans work at local newspapers.
  • In little rock she fought to make sure that the
    youth of little rock could go to any school they
    wanted.

    York but was rejected
  • Tried out for many plays and parts in movies,

    stayed at her fathers house

    S. Mosby.

What Impact She Had On The World
  • Before Antonia Ford women who were spies didnt
    get that much respect. She worked up to try and
    get respect but it was Confederate Colonel John
    S. Mosby who demanded that she be respected and
    honored. Antonia was also a brave woman that took
    that guilt for kidnapping Union General Edwin H.
    Stoughton even though she didnt kidnapped him
    and she new who did. Confederate Colonel John S.
    Mosby kidnapped him. She was brave enough to go
    to jail for a crime she didnt commit. She died
    in jail protecting Mosby because she wouldnt
    turn him in.

    inventor of the new and improved hairbrush.
    November 15, 1898.
  • African American, Lyda Newman of New York, New
    York patented a new and improved hair brush on
    November 15, 1898. Lydia Newman designed a brush
    that was easy to keep clean, very durable and
    easy to make, and provided ventilation during
    brushing by having recessed air chambers
