Biography on Columbine
  • At approximately 1130am on Tuesday, April 20,
1999 two students dressed in black trench coats
with black masks entered Columbine High School in
Littleton, Colorado with shot guns, grenades and
home made bombs and proceeded to open fire on
anything and everyone that moved.  Terror filled
the halls of this great suburban (Of, relating
to, or characteristic of the culture, customs,
and manners typical of life in the suburbs.)
high school.  Why did they do this?  Why did it
have to happen?  Why here?  Why now?  These are
just a few of the questions that have no answers.

Terrified students were left in the school
hiding, praying and hoping that the gunmen would
not come after them.  Most were fortunate enough
to get out, while some were not all that lucky.
This is a day that will long be remembered by
many people in Denver, Colorado and across the
nation.  Within 2 hours of the shootings news was
spread throughout the entire country.  News
reports showing the students fleeing for their
lives.  Gunshots being heard from within the
school while everyone waited....helpless outside
not able to do anything.
At approximately 1230pm the SWAT team moved in
and began securing the inside of the  school.
Police officers outside secured around the school
as medical personnel prepared for the worse.
4
Two hours after the first shots were fired
students started emerging from the school.
Police officers directed the students to safe
areas and medical assistance.   Some students had
minor injuries while others with major injuries
were rushed to the local hospitals via Flight for
Life and Ambulance.  Other students rushed into
the surrounding houses and apartments they could
find to call for help and to also seek safety.
Students gathered at a local elementary school
and library to be reunited with their families
and friends.  Tears of joy and tears of fear and
pain showed on the faces of these terrified and
frightened students.   Parents rushing around to
find their sons or daughters to make sure they
were safe.   This indeed was a very sad and
horrifying day for the students of Columbine High
School and also for the people of Littleton and
the state of Colorado.
5
By 200pm the officers came out of the school
announcing that the gunmen had committed suicide
by shooting themselves.  After taking the lives
of so many students and injuring so many
others. No one knew this morning when school
started how the day would go or end.  Most
everyone thought that this would be another
typical day in high school.   Most everyone
thought that they were very safe in school and
that this type of thing couldn't happen to them.
Only 2 people knew what today was going to bring.
6
After all was said and done, 15 students and
faculty were killed and 25 were left either with
minor injuries or very serious injuries on this
tragic day.  It is indeed tragic for the life of
anyone to be taken and at such an early age.
These students had their whole lives ahead of
them.
