    Executive Board Member agreeing to investigate
    the creation of Indian Plumbing Standards.

A Partnership is Formed
  • Within months a strategic plan was created and
    implemented.
  • IPA created a Code Committee of 12 members from
    throughout India.
  • Each IPA Chapter supplied additional people for
    the review process.
  • IAPMO provided a team of seven people for Code
    Development support.

SUCCESS!
  • One year later the 2008 Uniform Plumbing Code
    India was published and accompanied by the UPC-I
    Illustrated Training Manual.
  • The UPC-I recognizes and utilizes proven
    international concepts taking into consideration
    the established plumbing practices and customs in
    India.

  • In order to improve the skills and expertise of
    professional plumbers, The IPA established the
    Indian Institute of Plumbing (IIP) as its
    educational arm.
  • To assist the IPA and advance IAPMOs global
    mission to promote assist in education and
    training in plumbing mechanical industry, IAPMO
    established the IAPMO Plumbing Codes and
    Standards India Private Limited, to be known as
    IAPMO India, having offices in Bengaluru and
    Pune.

Recognizing Need for Training
  • Understanding the need for plumbing education
    in India, the IAPMO-I, IPA and IIP formed a
    partnership agreement to provide plumbing
    education and training throughout India.

  • A formal needs assessment for plumbing education
    was conducted
  • Consulting eminent members of the plumbing
    industry
  • And visiting existing Indian Educational
    Institutions.

Plumbing Education to Employment Program
  • The goal of the IPA-IAPMO Plumbing Education to
    Employment Program (PEEP) is to prepare multiple
    levels of professional groups in India to read,
    understand, interpret, engage, and apply the
    provisions of Uniform Plumbing Code India, to
    designs, initial installations and continued
    maintenance of the plumbing systems.

Plumbing Education to Employment Program
  • PEEP consists of three programs of study
  • Plumbing Systems Design - A post graduate course
    in plumbing for civil, environmental or
    mechanical engineering graduates
  • Plumbing Construction Management - A post
    graduate course in plumbing for contractors,
    construction managers, supervisors, architects
    and interior designers.
  • Plumbing Technology - Two-year program focused on
    the installation and maintenance of code-based
    plumbing systems.

Noteworthy Developments
  • IPA IAPMO-India have reached an agreement with
    Bhaskar Foundation and Ministry of Rural
    Development to provide a PEEP-based training
    program for 2000 Rural Students.
  • Indian Railways Corporation has agreement to
    utilize UPC-I provisions and training in their
    facilities.
  • Government of India Central Public Works
    Department has received training on UPC-I.

Moving Forward
  • IPA IAPMO India is beginning work on 2012
    Edition of UPC-I.
  • GREEN Standards will be considered as well
  • A separate Green Plumbing Standard for India at a
    higher level than minimum code will be considered
    as a separate document.

Aspirations
  • Formal recognition by Confederation of Indian
    Industry and recommendation for their members to
    use the Uniform Plumbing Code-India in their
    projects.
  • Participation in the 2012 code development
    process and formal recognition of the UPC-I by
    the Bureau of Indian Standards.
  • Participation in the 2012 code development
    process and formal recognition of the UPC-I by
    the Quality Council of India.
  • Recognition of the UPC-I as the National Plumbing
    Standard of India.
