Environmental Management is part of everyday
Management
  • Senior Manager (ultimate responsibility)
-Develops and delivers philosophy and policy,
monitors mine performance, agrees to output and
    performance measures
  • Manager Supervisors - implement operational
    plans, standards, control systems procedures,
manage available resources to achieve effective
    implementation, ensure effective communication of
    environmental policy and procedures, provide
timely feedback on performance, ensure continuous
    improvement
  • All Employees - follow set procedures, provide
feedback to managers, properly trained employees

identify potential non-compliances, keep up to
date on technical and legislative issues, ensure
appropriate methods and procedures are in place,
verify monitoring provides objective evidence for
    confirmation

What I can do to ensure successful implementation
of EMS and IS014001 certification this year
  • Ensure all personnel in your work area are aware
(tool box talk within next two weeks) of IPCL
ISO14001 and their relevance to their work area
  • Ensure physical conditions in your work area are
up to standard(remember certification dates) in
particular ensure those identified in the
internal audit are resolved. Watch out for oils
or chemicals not stored in bunds, bunds or oil
    traps damaged/full, fire extinguishers not
    checked, housekeeping)
  • Ensure personnel in your area are familiar with
    and operate to standard procedures
  • Ensure personnel in you area are aware of
Emergency procedures where to find Material
    Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
