- How to use the web-based
- card catalog
2From the library home page, click on the card
catalog link.
The symbol repeats on all the site pages, so you
can click on it from any page. Make a note of the
symbol.
3You will now be in the Web Based Card Catalog
4To return to the main search screen at any time,
click Search at the top of the page from any
screen.
5To search by Key Word, type the words you wish to
search for in the search bar, and then click on
Keyword.
6You will get a results list of every item in the
catalog which has those keywords.
7Clicking on an item will show the details of the
book, and will have your search terms highlighted.
You can see here how many copies are currently in.
8To go back to your list of books, click the back
arrow on your browser.
9To Move forward on your list of books, click the
forward pointing arrow on the search screen.
10You can move back in your list by clicking the
backward pointing arrow on your search screen.
11The other searches work the same way. Type a
search term in the search bar, then click the
button for the search type you wish. This is an
example of a Title search.
As you can see, there are two copies of Q is for
Quarry. To see the copies, click on the title.
12Here you can see that one copy is in audio form,
and the second in in book form. The book is out,
the audio book is available.
To see the details of the print book, click on
the title beside the book icon.
13You can see the library owns two copies of this
book, and that both are out. To see when they are
due back, Click on the words Copies In
14You can see when the next copy should be available
Again, to go back to the previous screen, click
the backward pointing arrow.
15From this screen, if you scroll down slightly,
you will see a button marked Place Hold/Reserve.
If you would like the library to hold the book
for you, with your library card you can place the
hold yourself and the staff will call you when
the book is available.
16When you have clicked on the Hold/Reserve button,
you will get this screen. Enter your library
barcode number and use your last name as your
password, then click OK.
17You will then be presented with an option to
choose a specific copy. We recommend you leave
the selection on Hold Any Copy, and then click
Save.
18You will be told what number you are on the holds
list. Click OK to continue.
19You can also Log In to see what books you have
out, if you have any fines, or books on hold. (If
you already logged in, you will not have to again
this session.)
20Once you have logged in, you can see your
checkouts and when your books are due. If you
scroll down, you will also see if you have any
outstanding fines, and what books you have on
hold.
21Here you can see the pending holds, including the
one just placed.
22When you are done viewing your information, or
placing holds, please be sure to click the Log
Out button so that no one else can gain access to
your account.
23You will receive this message when you are logged
out. Click OK to continue.
24In addition to the ability to see what you have
out, there is a new way to browse the card
catalog called the Visual Card Catalog. To access
this, click on the Visual button on your tool bar.
25A new window will open with this screen.
26To browse a subject, click on the icon for that
Subject. For example, if you click on Science,
you will get this screen.
To see what books the library owns on Endangered
Species, click on that picture
27Here you can see that there are 18 books about
Endangered Species. The list shows the books
call number and status. If you click on the book
again, you will get more detail about it.
28Clicking the the title Endangered Animals beings
up the following screen. Note that you CANNOT
place a hold from this screen, or log in to view
what you have out.
29To go back in your search, click on the
appropriate button under Navigation. To start
over again, click Home.
30To close the window and return to the regular Web
Card Catalog, click the Exit button.
31That is all it takes to use the Web based card
catalog. If you have any problems with it, please
ask a librarian for help.
