Title: Document Sharing Order Information– Slug-A-Bug – Bees

1
Are Bees Becoming a Problem?
  • Prevent Stings in your Yard This Year

2
An Important Partner
  • Bees are an important part of Floridas
ecosystem. Without bees, many of the farming
operations throughout the state simply wouldnt
    be able to survive.
  • Even with that in mind, though, they can often be
a nuisance to homeowners and cause serious
    problems to some.
  • Many people are allergic to bee stings and need
the help of bee pest control experts to keep
    their home bee wasp free.

3
What Kind of Bees Are You Facing?
  • There are approximately 20,000 species of bees
worldwide. All of them, though, live in colonies,
and if youre facing a swarm, you may be dealing
with bees looking for a new home.
  • Identifying them can be essential to developing
    the right treatment method.
  • If you need help determining the type of bees
around your home, contact a Brevard County bee
control expert, it may help to determine what
kind of bees youre dealing with.

The Bumblebee
Bumblebees typically nest in the ground, but they
can also be seen near your patio or deck. In some
cases, theyll build nests in attics or under
roof beams. If you become a threat to a
bumblebee, they begin to buzz at a louder volume.
They get quite aggressive when they think their
nests are in danger. They have six legs and are
black with yellow stripes. The best way to
prevent this problem is to remove potential
nesting materials from the home.
5
The Carpenter Bee
  • Carpenter bees build nests for themselves and
their young. They can literally drill through the
wood in your home. Because their stingers arent
barbed, they can repeatedly sting an individual.
Just an inch in length, these bees are have a
    blue-black color scheme.
  • They tend to prefer bare wood, and painting or
staining the surfaces outside your home can be a
good deterrent. They also like nests in higher
places, so the nesting site can be tough to
    reach.

6
The Honeybee
  • Honeybees are responsible for pollinating many
crops in the US. They are the most recognizable
type of bee. Golden with yellow brown bands, they
will build natural nests in the crevices of
trees, but some have found nests in the attic or
    the chimney of their home.
  • They can only sting once, as their stinger tears
off when they try to get away. The colonies
themselves can be quite large, and removal is
    often a messy job.

7
The Killer Bee
  • Killer Bees are actually Africanized Honeybees,
and they can chase someone up to a quarter of a
    mile if they become aggressive.
  • While their venom is no more dangerous than that
of a traditional honeybee, their attacks can be
more serious because they often attack in larger
    numbers.
  • Like some other species, they can only sting once
as their stingers tear off when they attempt to
    escape.
  • They have the ability to build nests in strange
places, including old tires, crates, and even
boxes. If you are being chased by one of these
bees, try running in a zigzag pattern, then find
shelter inside a home or a car immediately.
  • If you find a Killer Bee nest on your property,
call a bee nest removal company right away.

Bee Proofing Tips
  • One way to make certain you dont have a problem
with bees is to locate areas that may prove
    attractive to a swarm.
  • Holes outside your home that lead to attractive
covered areas, voids in tree branches, and large
recesses in your homes roof are all the perfect
    places for bees to hide.
  • Be sure to block these off with screens or
caulking to prevent a potential problem and call
a Melbourne bee control company for assistance.

9
If You Do Have a Problem
  • Your first step if you notice an issue should be
to call a professional. Dont try to cover up the
nest or cut off the bees access to the nest, as
you need to remove the colony before you do that.
You should also try to avoid the bees, as a sting
could be life-threatening. Leave this job to the
    Brevard County bee control professionals.

10
If a Sting Occurs
  • If you are stung by a bee, check to see if a
stinger has been left behind. If so, gently
scrape it out of the skin. Bug do not pull it.
Use your fingernail or a credit card to scrape it
out, then wash the area with soap water.
  • Apply a cold pack for a few minutes, then take
acetaminophen to help control the pain.
  • Watch for signs of an allergic reaction, which
could include difficulty breathing, larger areas
    of swelling, or even fainting.
