Gangs and Hip Hop music has always been affiliated in conversations about both. A lot of people believe that Hip Hop is completely responsible for the rise in gang violence since Hip Hop was founded. Some people believe that gang activity influences many Hip Hop artists. While Hip Hop lyrics and gang activity have been linked together over the years, they are not as closely related as some may think. The Game, Lil Wayne, and Snoop Dogg are a few of the very popular mainstream artists that do actually have ties with street gangs.

Gangs are usually blamed for most of the violence in the inner cities in America. The most significant gangs exist in large cities and usually include people of minority backgrounds. The majority of popular Rap musicians are of a minority background. Gang members often listen to Hip Hop and dress in the urban clothing style, which is what Hip Hop musicians usually wear. Rap music has been known to contain violent lyrics related to gang activity. So, is it true that Hip Hop is responsible for violent gang activity?

Gangs have been established many times before anybody ever thought of Hip Hop. Why haven't people realized this fact? People may know that, but they believe that Rap is responsible for making gangs even more violent. I don't believe that music is powerful enough to make somebody perform violent actions. However, I believe that gang activity has an influence on many Hip Hop artists.

Many of the popular musicians today grew up in the inner city. As long as they have been alive, they have been effected by gangs in some way or another. Emcees have the tendency to portray their life story on an instrumental. If they lived in the ghetto, then they are definitely going to talk about the things they did, and seen, when they lived there.
6 OH Hip Hop
Rap music gets an unfair blame when it comes to violent crimes performed in the inner city. The truth is that Rap music doesn't make anybody do anything, especially violent things. It may talk about violent crimes but that doesn't make people commit them. The blame should never be placed on music. Many popular movies show drug abuse. If Hip Hop can be blamed for gang violence, then why aren't movies blamed for drug use? That analogy shows how ridiculous this blame is that Hip Hop constantly has to deal with.
