nothing to allay fears regarding the stability of
major currencies. The dollar may, in fact,
benefit in contrast to the euro but the general
feeling is one of nervousness and investors are
looking to the precious metals market for a safe
haven. While gold is experiencing huge
investment demand, the other precious metals
depend more on demand from industry. A stronger
economy would mean growth for the automotive
industry and increased demand for the platinum
group metals. However, there is some investment
demand for these metals also, particularly for
silver, which offers investors a more accessible
entry point into the precious metals
market. "Widespread fears about the current
economic situation, both in the US and overseas,
is sending investors scurrying to find a safe
