Title: Going Global: Expanding the Family Expertise

1
Going Global Expanding the Family Expertise
2
  • In the initial stage of our company, we
recognized the need to undertake the following
  • Update and install control and monitoring systems
to enable us to meet tighter deadlines and lower
    costs
  • Re-assess production methods update technology
and re-train workers to accept the new production
    methods
  • Re-organize the company to be more responsive to
the opportunities available and to service
    existing clients better
  • Professionalize the company to ensure its growth
    for the future.

3
  • Steps taken in response to the identified needs
  • Focusing first on control to bring down runaway
costs, better accounting and purchasing systems
were installed and continue to be refined
  • Production was streamlined and switched as much
as possible to line work in order to meet
production. Piece rates were re-studied as this
is a natural incentive to improve production
    throughput
  • Increased marketing efforts as we were largely
    dependent on only one client

4
  • The current focus is to undertake the following
  • Conceptualization and implementation of a
production planning and monitoring system this
may seem very basic but for our company we have
upwards of 500 designs in our active production
file, the volume requirements for these 500
active items range from 1 to thousands skills
requirement vary from basic to very skilled

5
  • Establishment and continued implementation of a
costing system to cope with the real time changes
in commodity prices of gold and silver this has
given us a lot of grief as silver prices were
stable for the longest time but we are evolving a
costing procedure to cope with this
  • Cataloging and preparation of databases of
designs, raw materials and other inputs to serve
    as basis for the systems
  • Productivity assessment of employees and workers.
  • Improve our marketing efforts and follow through.

6
  • As a result of some of our changes, our clients
have asked us to increase our capacity
  • This means a rapid growth from 25,000 pcs per
month to 75,000 pieces per month within the next
three years. We have opened a new plant in Clark
as we have to import items from time to time and
we need relief from VAT in order not to deplete
    our working capital
  • The number of our workers grew from 170 to over
200 in one plant while we train workers in our
second plant in Clark. We estimate that at the
end of three years, we will have a total of 250
workers per plant or a total of 500 apart from
    head office staff.

7
  • Reduction in cost as we continuously review our
production methods to eliminate unnecessary steps
or transfer steps to machines from workers
updating of technology to improve component
preparation improvement of worker skills by
finding better fits for their skills and
    potential to learn
  • Continuing identification of what needs to be
    changed..
