Title: Image Display Paradigm 3: IDP3

1
Image Display Paradigm 3 IDP3
From simple image display to sophisticated image
analysis all in one package. Developed by
members of the NICMOS team including Stobie,
Schneider, Thompson, Lytle,Hines, Silverstone,
Cotera
2
Primary Capabilities
  • Written in IDL Tested on MacOS, Linux, WinTel,
    Solaris
  • Fully configurable preferences
  • I/O ? Standard and multi-extension FITS,
    Postscript, TIFF, JPEG, State Save
  • GUI modeled after Mac/PC applications like
    Transform Photoshop
  • Image Constraints
  • Image planes limited by memory only
  • Arbitrary array sizes with arbitrary pixel
    scaling (distortion TBA)
  • The original image is NEVER altered. Operations
    are applied to original image.
  • Interpolation
  • Block replication
  • Bicubic and bicubic spline
  • Bi-Linear
  • Basic Image Manipulation
  • Shifting, scaling and offsets, rotation, pixel
    scale, (distortion correction)
  • Stack manipulation
  • Gaussian and Weighted Centroids and alignments
  • World coordinate alignment
  • ADD, SUB, MUL, DIV, MIN, XOR, POS, abs(NEG)
  • Interpolated Zoom and De-Zoom, Median, Mean,
    sig-clip Median and Mean

3
Image Analysis
  • Full statistics of Region Of Interest with export
    to spread sheet
  • Polygon Function allows arbitrarily shaped
    regions
  • Polygons are movable and editable (much like in
    AIPS)
  • Cross-Cuts
  • GUI cuts with editable parameters
  • Overplots and dump to ASCII tables
  • Gaussian profile fitting
  • Radial Profiles
  • Gaussian and weighted centroids visualization of
    fits
  • Encircled energy with errors
  • Dump all parameters to ASCII table
  • IDP3 Special Mods for FEPS, MIPS SIRTF
  • Intended for analysis of high S/N, isolated
    point-sources
  • Distortion formalism being incorporated
  • Automatic alignment
  • Cross-cut applications to IRS spectroscopy
    (exploration)

4
MIPS-Specific Issues
  • Latent Images
  • Dither pattern does not provide sufficient
spacing to eliminate latent contribution via
    median
  • Especially difficult with structured background
    in GeGa data
  • Distortion Corrections
  • Assumes optical distortion only
  • No capacity for different sized pixels within the
    array
  • MOSAIC
  • Not specifically designed for mosaics or scan-map
    data
  • Will do basic alignment with World Coordinates
  • Will correct optical distortion
  • Will not auto-scale background
