• Direct quotations should be made part of your own
  sentencedo not simply insert a sentence into
  your paragraph.
• Put a parenthetical citation directly after the
  quotation.
• Optional Set up the quote in the body of your
  essay by mentioning the source.

• According to Mark Smith of the FDA, twenty-nine
  percent of teenagers drive dangerously fast when
  others are in the vehicle (Smith 22).
• Teenagers should drive alone until they are
  eighteen, because almost 50 of teenagers are
  involved in reckless driving accidents within a
  year of turning 16 (Smith 22).
