Title: Processor Control Nadcap Implementation a supplement to Boeing oversight
1Processor Control Nadcap Implementation --- a
supplement to Boeing oversight ---
Nadcap Supplier Workshop April 20, 2004 L. Arne
Logan Nadcap Project Leader
2Processor Control Strategy
Work together as one Boeing company and with the
Aerospace Industry to right size our processor
base and continually improve the certification
and oversight of special processors so there are
NO escapes due to special processing anywhere in
the supply chain.
-- a quality initiative that will lead to
industry cost reductions --
3Processor Control Improvement
- Situation
- Control of special processors has not
consistently prevented escapes from impacting
production lines - Problem affects the entire aerospace industry
Target Improve control, prevent escapes,
increase productivity and enhance customer
satisfaction
4Alternatives for improving process control
- We could have significantly increased the numbers
and technical skills of our processor control
staff. - -OR-
- We could chose to supplement our existing efforts
by requiring the use of Nadcap accredited
processors.
5Why is Boeing Requiring Nadcap.
- Nadcap is industry managed controlled
- Nadcap auditors are process experts in the
technologies they audit - Nadcap audit process is technical and in-depth
- Processors that cannot attain accreditation will
not be approved - Allows Boeing to focus resources on Boeing
specific issues and concerns
6Boeing Oversight
- Perform initial process audits
- Continue to perform process audits for processes
not covered by Nadcap - At Nadcap accredited processors - maintenance
activity based on potential risk (process
criticality processor performance) - Work with Nadcap to include Special Processes
Boeing Unique Criteria not currently in the scope
of Nadcap

10Key Messages
- Boeing is committed to working with the aerospace
industry through its support of the Nadcap
process - The Nadcap process offers all participants an
opportunity to influence the process - Nadcap reduces variation of audit criteria
resulting in lower cost to processor and primes - Nadcap process offers improved quality through
improving or eliminating of poor performing
processors - Through common process audits the cost is shared
by the industry
